So far, the children have enjoyed reading and sharing their knowledge about firemen and medical professions such as doctors, nurses and the emergency services. They also learned about these professions through role-play, small world toys, related rhymes, stories and crafts. This week, our learning is focused on the police and exploring their role in our community through looking into information books and dressing up and role-playing outside. The children have enjoyed being police officers and they set up a police station outside, making themselves busy with catching ‘baddies’, filling in incident forms and creating their own ‘Wanted’ posters. This term during our Woodland Walks, we went on a Sound Hunt around the village and the children impressed us all with their abilities to hear and name different sources of sound. We also played nature detectives and explored what was hiding under the grass using magnifying glasses. Last week we spent some time collecting natural materials appropriate for making shakers and tested them during our singing time. This week we are going to play a Memory Game using natural materials and continue with building activities using wooden planks, beams, logs and branches. As in previous years, we took part in celebrating World Book Day on the 7 th of March. The children enjoyed a session with our special visitors Emma, Duncan and Liz from The Ad Plain. They read to the children two storybooks about farm animals and talked to them about farming in a very engaging and age appropriate way. Many thanks to our guests for joining us for the morning and donating the books to the pre-school. On Wednesday the 13 th we had a visit from Ryan’s Uncle Lee and his colleagues from Didcot Fire Station. The children were given a chance to see a fire engine and the equipment kept in it. They also heard about what it is like to be a fireman and had a chance to sit in the fire engine. A huge thank you to the Newport family for helping us to organize the visit.

What’s Next: Next week we are continuing with our People Who Help Us theme and plan to focus on hairdressers and retail workers mainly through role-play. We will also start exploring spring and seasonal changes that come with it and we will be getting ready for Easter.

Pre-School Trip – Friday 29th March Our main event for this term is our pre-school trip and visiting Farmer Gow’s on the 29th March. Can we please remind you to bring in your payment for your child for the trip if you have not already done so, this can either be brought into pre-school or paid by BACS into the pre-school account. Thank you all for your kind offers to help us with the children on the day trip to Farmer Gow’s. The places on the coach are limited so, unfortunately, we are not able to take on the coach everyone who wanted to come along. We have given priority to the parents of the youngest children because they will need lots of support on the day. However, if you didn’t get a place on the coach but would really like to come along with us, please do let us know. For any parents that have other children attending the school, school have kindly offered to take the children in at the school lunch hall from 8.30am for the day.
