make a huge difference in the lives of these children. Group & Sports Photos On the 19th November our Sports and Special Group photos will be taken. Further information regarding uniform requirements and how to order will be sent home soon but please add this date to your calendar. Sentral Update We are aware that some parents have been experiencing some issues with the Sentral App, this is an issue from Sentral end that seems to be affecting mainly iPhone users and I have been working with Sentral to rectify these issues. I know this is frustrating but I ask that you please bear with us while we work on this. In the meantime we will send paper notes and I ask that should you need any additional information you contact the office. Grandparents Day We look forward to welcoming our grandparents to our annual grandparents day, next Monday the 5th of November. The students and staff look forward to sharing some of our recent assembly items and our school dance group performances and invite our grandparents to enjoy some afternoon tea with their grandchildren before visiting classrooms. Please remember this is a special day for our loved grandparents. Presentation Ceremony Reminders

Prefect Election Process Our 2018 prefects have been outstanding ambassadors for our school and the search for our 2019 leadership group begins in earnest this term. The prefect body at Wattle Grove PS consists of a total of 12 students. These students will include a male and female captain, as well as a male and female vice-captain, plus 8 prefects. There is no gender quota on the prefects elected. A note outlining all details has been forwarded home to all students in Year 5, for perusal by their families. The students and staff have nominated and voted to select the top 20 students who will prepare and present a speech next week. Congratulations to those students and good luck.

to prepare, Jayda's gave an amazing speech lasting a minute and a half, about how technology distracts adults whilst driving and crossing roads and how children are distracted on their iPads and with games like Fortnite. We are so proud of you Jayda! Thank you to the other students who came and supported Jayda - it really made the day very special.

Student Banking To all of our Student Bankers, the 5 December will be the last day for banking for the year. Please ensure you have claimed your rewards prior to this date so they can be ordered and sent to you before the end of Term. Families for students in Kindergarten to Year 5 that are leaving Wattle Grove School would you

please let us know so we can supply you with tokens to take to your next school. Please keep in mind that your Student ID will change and you will need to get this from your new school if they do Student Banking with the Commonwealth Bank.

Grandparents Day Just a reminder that Monday 5 November from 1.30pm-3pm we will be hosting a special afternoon at the school for grandparents. We understand that some grandparents will require the assistance of a parent, but please keep in mind that this event is a day for grandparents only. Afternoon tea will be provided as well as open classrooms and an outdoor concert. We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with you.

Partial Absences The office has noticed a high number of children arriving late to school and on a regular occasion. We appreciate that sometimes there are valid reasons (dental, specialist, doctors appointment)

however please keep in mind this does effect the attendance record of your child. Partial absences are also for leaving school early. In these circumstances, please provide your child with a note to give to the teacher. This will ensure there is minimal disruption to classes and will allow the teacher and office staff to have the student ready for an early departure. Please do not call the office to have your child removed from class early unless the circumstances are urgent or unavoidable. It is a requirement by the Department of Education that all full and partial absences must be explained in writing by the parent/caregiver to the school within 7 days of the first day of absence. We appreciate your understanding with this. Extended Leave Please be advised that if you are planning a family holiday or other leave that involves your child being absent from school for more than 5 days the Department of Education requires an Extended Leave Form to be completed and approved by the Principal. This form is available from the front office.

Invictus Games Excursion 23rd October What a fantastic day out in support of the Invictus Games! Year 6 students participate in a STEM session with Ozobots, Dashers, 3D printing and virtual reality activities, while year 5 went on a behind the scenes tour of ANZ stadium. Swimming heats were inspirational to watch and all students cheered on our Aussie team with excitement!

Remembrance Day Commemorative Service Please see below invitation to the WGPS Remembrance Day Service to be held on Thursday 8th November at 10:45am. The invitation was also sent out via Sentral on Thursday 25th October.

Education Assistance Scheme DCO provides a range of services and resources for Defence children, to assist with the transition between schools and education systems when a member is posted within Australia, and to provide support for the unique needs of Defence

students. Defence may reimburse fees for educational services external to the school. Students may be entitled to up to 14 weeks of tutoring in any subject that has been recommended by the school principal or the child’s teacher. This applies to primary and secondary students, within the first 18 months of commencing at the new school.

Deployments and Absence Please make sure you let your child/ren’s classroom teacher or I know if a member of your family is away for an extended period of time. Having this knowledge will go towards supporting the student/s at school throughout the absence period.

“Light the Night for Blake” was held on Saturday,

20th October. On behalf of Kim and her family

we’d like to thank everyone for coming and

supporting this event. Despite the terrible

weather we had a great turnout and made $7,500

for the Leukaemia foundation; a tremendous

effort over a few hours. Thank you to everyone

who helped on the night; selling raffle tickets or

on the BBQ. A huge thank you to our WGPS

dancers and our To Shine singers for keeping us

entertained on the night.

It was a moving experience to be a part of to

remember our beautiful Blake and to recognise

the blood cancer journey many of our community

are going through at present.

Thanks again
