Green Thumbs The Gardening Club have been working very hard this year with Mrs Catt to improve our school grounds. As the spring and summer buds are growing, these are very appealing to younger siblings waiting in the playground before and after school. The Gardening Club respectfully ask parents to keep young siblings out of the garden beds and not pull off the flowers and buds.

Parking Please be advised that council parking inspectors will be monitoring our parking habits around the school as there have been reports of cars parking illegally. Please observe the parking signs in Cressbrook Drive and local streets to avoid hefty fines.

Ethics as an alternative to non-scripture Our school provides time for SRE (Special Religious Education) or Scripture classes each Wednesday morning as a legislative requirement. The Education Act 1990 requires that ‘in every government school, time is to be allowed for the religious education of children of any religious persuasion’. Students who do not attend SRE classes attend non-scripture. An alternative to SRE in some schools is SEE (Special Ethics Education) for students who attend non-scripture. The Education Act has been amended to allow special education in ethics as an option for children whose parents have withdrawn them from special religious education.

In order to run Ethics classes as an alternative to non-scripture in our school, we would require volunteers to train as ethics teachers who would be available on Wednesday mornings in 2018. If you are interested in more information to become and ethics teacher or interested in Wattle Grove PS offering Ethics as an alternative to non-scripture, please visit https://primaryethics.com.au/ or contact Mr White.

Pacific School Games We are all wishing Kira-May F, who will be competing in Shot-put, the best of luck at the Pacific School Games which will be held in Adelaide next week. Raffle tickets to assist with Kira’s travel costs are being sold at the front office. If you would like to help support her costs, please drop in to the Office. Good Luck Kira-May!

Reports Teachers are finalising student reports to be distributed on Tuesday 12 December. You are encouraged to make an appointment with your child’s teacher if there is anything that you would like to discuss about the reports.

Presentation Events This week we have celebrated wonderful student achievement in our Stage 1 and Stage 2 Presentation Assemblies. The Kindergarten Presentation Assembly is being held next Tuesday 5 December at 1:30pm. We have had to bring the assembly forward 30 minutes to allow enough time to present all awards and wrap it up before bell time. The Stage 3 Presentation Assembly will be held in the evening of Tuesday 5 December at 6:30pm. We look forward to seeing you at these events.

Term Dates Students wrap up the year on Friday 15 December. Staff will be participating in School Development Day activities on Monday 18 December. This is a ‘pupil-free day’. Students in Years 1-6 return to school on Tuesday 30 January.

Wishing you a great fortnight as we head towards the break.

Thought for the fortnight “The secret of change is to focus all your energy, not fighting the old, but building the new”- Socrates

Crazy Hair Day

Thanks to all staff and students who got into the spirit again to support our annual Crazy Hair Day. We love seeing the amazing ideas and creations that come out. This year we were fortunate to raise close to $1800 to support our two sponsor children, Kahambu and Gerede in the DR of Congo and the Siza Preschool children. I know the money is greatly appreciated and goes a long way in these countries to supply food, uniforms and school supplies. Thanks again.

Relocations and Housing - Defence Relocation and Housing Managers (DRHM) A timely reminder as we approach peak posting season. Help is available should you need to ask questions or come across any issues throughout your relocation.

Deployments and Absence Please make sure you let your child’s teacher or I know if a member of your family is away for an extended period of time. Having this knowledge will go towards supporting the student at school throughout the absence period. School Posting Passport Do you have one of these? Families that are posting out, could you please send your existing School Posting Passports to School with your children for stamping. Students that have not changed schools before and are posting out, the passport will be sent home on their last day of school.
