Place in front of notebook. Invite students to memorize. 4. Introduce “Discovery Tickets”. Take-Off Game 1. Play Sentence-No Sentence by following directions. 2. Use these sentences/ “phrases” or create your own. Round 1- Teacher offers sentences and phrases for the student to judge. The farmers grew wheat and barley. Answer: Sentence “Both men and women” Answer: No sentence The study of the past is called history. Answer: Sentence Round 2-Students take turns offering sentences and phrases for other students to judge. Round 3- Teacher offers phrases, and students must fix them. “played games” Answers vary: The boys played games. “The amazing Johnny Rocket” Answers vary: The amazing Johnny Rocket blasted into outer space. “rolled down the street” Answers vary: The pumpkin rolled down the street. Our first writing project this year is about the moments when you were young and looked at your parents with a big smile and said, “I did it all by myself.”Let’s brainstorm together to get ideas about those skills we learned when we were young.

A sentence has a complete thought.It has a noun (person, place or thing) and a verb (an action word).

Sentence-No Sentence

To Play: Put your thumbs up if it is a sentence.
