Emma Upton Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise Project Proposal (P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3) Candidate name: Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot Predicted final outcome My aim for this photo shoot is to produce a minimum of 50 portrait photographs that is up to the standards of a music magazine. I will then look through my images I have taken and choose 10 images that I think have the best quality, and that can catch the general public’s attention. Once chosen, I will edit the images with Photoshop if needed. The predicted final outcome will be a set of 10 photographs that are fit for a music magazine. I hope by the end of this shoot, I will have created 10 photographs of the highest quality that are up to industry standards. Why:All of these images are very similar due to the fact they are all from the same music magazine ‘Kerrang!' which is a very popular UK rock music magazine that I am definitely taking inspiration from. I want to take images similar or like these I have included that would be suitable for a rock music magazine.I love the style of these images because they all include each member of the band and there the focus isn’t completely on the front man, or singer. I also love how simplistic these images are, the focus is the band with nothing much else going on in the images. However with the images by Paul Harries, I like how they involve a simple feature, whether that is false moustaches like in the first image or the horns featured in the second image. I would definitely love to take images similar to these, that focuses on the band and could possibly include a small other feature that doesn’t entirely take the focus away from the band, it just adds to the image.Something that isn’t included in these images that I would like to include in some of mine would be setting; I would like to take some images outside either in a town or possibly a forest or park to add more depth to my images. But I would also definitely take some that are against a plain background like the images included.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

For this shoot I will have a choice of using one of three different DSLR cameras to take my digital still images, for this I can either use a Nikon D3100, Canon 7D or the Canon 1100D. Here are some comparisons of the cameras available:Nikon D3100: 14.2 effective megapixels.Canon 7D: ISO 6400, 18 megapixels. Canon 1100D: ISO 6400, 12 megapixels. The canon 7D or 1100D would be the best choice for what images I would like to take, because the high ISO means I would be able to take pictures with low lighting. I could also maybe use a tripod to create some steady shots. The Canon 7D has more megapixels which means the pictures would be of better quality.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

With framing for these images, I would like to keep every member of the band within the frame. I would most likely use rule of thirds and possibly some images features with depth of field. I will use these techniques in order to draw attention to my images and make the focus point, the band, the main or only focus of the image. I would definitely use depth of field if I took some images outside in order to blur the background and have the band in complete focus.

Location of shoot Kerrang!:

Rocksound:

I’m mostly basing my images around these two magazines. They are both very popular rock music based magazines that I think my images will be fit for as I am aiming to shoot quite rock based portraits.
