Theme: Manchester Portrait Photo Shoot

The final outcome I want for my portrait shoot is to show different people that live or visit Manchester. As a result of this is I think it will bring a more diverse community into Manchester.I am going to produce a set of portrait photos which advertise and show Manchester in a positive light. The idea I have for my portrait photos is to approach people from different walks of life and take their photo. After I have got the photo I will then edit the background of the photo to be in black and white and leave the subject in colour. I want my photos to look like something Steve McCurry has taken. I have chosen these photos as examples because you’re not distracted by the background or anything you are just struck by the diversity in each photo.

I have chosen this theme because I think when people think of Manchester they think of chavvy people and really Manchester is diverse and we hold all sorts of people from different walks of life.

Photographers who produce similar images to the ones I wish to produce are Steve McCurry, Mario Testino, and Ken Regan. I want to produce photos like these three photographers because they show diversity and some of their photos also break gender stereotypes.

For my portrait photos I will be using a Nikon D3100 camera.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message For my photos I am hoping to use to use the depth of field technique because it will draw the audience to the subject of the photo without any distractions disrupting the picture.
