Volunteers and Employees Every calendar year, all clergy, staff members, faculty and volun-teers supervising, working or interacting with minors must com-plete the Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at Parish/School Activities or Events. Without completing this document, adults may not supervise, work or interact with minors. You may obtain a copy of the Guidelines for Adults by visiting the Parish Office or by going to the Parish Website and clicking on Safe-guard the Children link. Further, adults are permitted to interact alone with minor/minors only after complying with Archdiocesan policies regarding fingerprinting and safe environment training. They may work with minors only as part of a team if they have not met those requirements. Dates, Times and Locations of training can be located on the Parish Website under the Safeguard the Chil-dren link. Fingerprinting occurs once while the safe environment training must be completed every four years.

In today’s readings we are told of the different gifts, forms of ser-vice, and workings that come from God. These manifestations of the Spirit come to fruition through us, for we have ability to give the gifts of faith, healing, and of mighty deeds. Today God calls upon each one of us here to share our gifts with our brothers and sisters in Christ that are in need of them. Through Together in Mission we can share our mighty deeds and give the healing and faith to the communities that simply would not be here without them. Though our church is large, our strength lies not in our numbers, but in our compassion and ability to respond. Every gift, regardless of the size, matters. What is important is that we give what we can and answer this calling of our faith. During all Masses next weekend, we will conduct the in-pew pro-cess for the collection of gifts & pledges to this year’s appeal. To-gether we can make sure God’s love and presence are felt by all, especially those in need. God bless you for your generous response and support.

Setting boundaries fosters healthy relationships We create boundaries to keep our lives in order, for example many adults separate personal and professional relationships. Trusted adults can help teach children to do the same. Boundaries are essential in the foundation of relationships, and children should be comfortable ex-pressing where they draw their own lines. “No means no” is easy to say in theory, but it should be respected in practice by your kids and their friends, teachers and other adults. Teach your kids how to explore their own comfort zones and give them time to tell you about their experiences. Open communication helps them understand that setting boundaries is part of life. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

As Roman Catholics, our marriage practices have their pedigree in ancient Rome. One of the major players in shaping our practices was the warfare involved in building an empire. Soldiers vanished and sometimes never returned. Women be-gan to manage their lives and to make decisions. The old fami-ly values were replaced by patriotic ones, and religion was more attuned to the gore and glory of battle, a religion of the state, not of the family. Weddings were still family celebra-tions, but had a public face. The bride wore a white toga and a red veil and walked to her new home. There, she and her hus-band joined their right hands and gave consent to each other, not relying on her father to give consent for her. Religion was optional: a pagan priest might be invited or not, and even with-out the ceremony, society agreed by common law that a year of living together equaled marriage consent. By the same token, marriage by consent also meant divorce was on the same legal footing, and did not require the courts or civil declarations. This is the world-view the first Christians inherited, and it was up to them to determine what was good and to hold marriage up to the light of the gospel. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

El día 3 de febrero se celebra entre misas, mariachis, fue-gos artificiales y muchas expresiones de religiosidad popular, la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de Suyapa en Hon-duras. Fue un sábado del mes de febrero, cuando Alejandro Colindres, un joven humilde labrador, y Jorge Martínez, un niño de ocho años, la encontraron. Según la tradición estos lle-garon cansados a la quebrada del Piligüín. Acostándose sobre el suelo, Alejandro sintió lo que le parecía una piedra en su espal-da. Por más que intentaba arrojarla lejos, cuando se acostaba sentía la misma piedra. Por fin en lugar de tirarla, la puso en su mochila y al amanecer descubrió que no era piedra sino una pequeña imagen de María (6.5 cm.) con rostro indígena tallada en madera. En 1780 se le construyó un templo y en 1796 se registró su primer milagro. El Papa Pío XII la proclamó Patrona de la República de Honduras en 1925. ¿SABÍA USTED? Establecer límites da lugar a relaciones saludables

Establecemos límites para mantener nuestras vidas en orden. Por ejemplo, muchos adultos separan sus relaciones personales de las profesionales. Adultos en los que se puede confiar pueden ayudar a enseñar a los niños a hacer lo mismo. Los límites son esenciales en el cimiento de relaciones y los niños deben sentirse cómodos al expresar dónde ellos desean poner sus propios límites. En teoría es fácil decir “No significa no”, pero debe ser respetado en la práctica por sus hijos y sus amistades, profesores y otros adultos. Enseñe a sus hijos cómo explorar sus propias zonas de comodidad y déles el tiempo para que le cuenten sobre sus propias experiencias. La comunicación abierta les ayuda a entender que sentar fronteras es parte de la vida. Voluntarios y Empleados Cada año, todo el clero, empleados, profesores y voluntarios que su-pervisan, que trabajan o que interactúan con los menores de edad de-ben completar la Guía para adultos que se Interrelacionan con Menores en Actividades o Eventos de la Parroquia/Escuela. Sin completar este documento, los adultos no pueden supervisar, trabajar o interactuar con menores. Usted puede obtener una copia de la Guía para adultos visi-tando la oficina parroquial o visitando el sitio web de la Parroquia y haciendo clic en el enlace de Safeguard the Children. Además, los adultos se les permite interactuar a solas con menores / menores de edad sólo después de cumplir con las pólizas de la Arquidiócesis de las huellas digitales y el entrenamiento de un ambiente seguro. Pueden trabajar con menores de edad sólo como parte de un equipo si no han cumplido esos requisitos. De las lecturas de hoy nos enteramos de los diferentes dones, formas de servicio y funcionamiento que vienen de Dios. Estas manifestaciones del Espíritu vienen a la vida a través de nosotros, porque tenemos capacidad de dar a los dones de la fe, la curación y de milagros. Aunque nuestra iglesia es grande, nuestra fuerza no reside en nuestros números, pero en nuestra compasión y capacidad de responder. Cada rega-lo, sin importar el tamaño, importa, siempre y cuando le da-mos lo que podemos y responder a la llamada de nuestra fe. Durante todas las Misas del próximo fin de semana, vamos a realizar el proceso de donación para la colección de regalos y promesas de la apelación de este año. Juntos podemos ha-cer el amor y la presencia segura de Dios son sentidas por todos, especialmente a los necesitados. Dios los bendiga por su respuesta generosa y su apoyo.
