THANK-YOU PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

"Dear SwissCham Members and Supporters, after over 4 years as President of SwissCham I have informed the Board that the time is right to start the process to elect and then hand over the reins to a new SwissCham President, in line with our succession plan strategy. A further announcement on the election of the new President will be made later in the year and we expect the handover will be effective from the 1st of January 2105, after which I will stay on as a Board Member for a period of time. "I am always amazed and impressed with the contribution that Swiss based companies (and individuals!) have made to both the Australian economy and society, and am also proud that SwissCham has been able to support these companies in some way. Swiss based companies, now employing over 80,000 people in Australia, continue to lead the way with regards to quality, social responsibility and good business practice! During my time as President, SwissCham has had to face the same challenges that many other organisations have had to face in Australia, including some tough economic conditions, changes in both State and Federal Governments, and related changes in regulations and legislation. SwissCham has had to navigate through this and work hard to keep its head above water and to use its revenue in a way that best benefits its membership base. But I'm pleased to say that SwissCham is in great condition, with good membership growth and solid finances. "

It's been a busy couple of years, with the successful name change from SACCI to SwissCham, a change of office location to the Market Street Sydney office, and an expansion and strengthening of the SwissCham board. "SwissCham has endeavoured to improve its membership services and has greatly improved its website, newsletters, business alerts, networking events and support services. "The creation of the “Swiss Award “ has also been a huge success ! The inaugural winner of the 2012 Swiss Award, Mr. Beat Knoblauch, followed by the 2013 winner Dr. Boris Baer and 2014 winner Hilti Australia, have all be very worthy recipients. As a member of the Swiss Award selection committee, I was always very impressed with the quality of the

2

Page 4: SwissCham Newsflash September 2014

individuals and corporations nominated for each year’s award, and I expect that the 2015 nominations will be just as impressive. "A special thanks to Glencore Xstrata who has been the major sponsor of the Swiss Award and who have helped make the Swiss Award Dinner such a wonderful event! "The success of SwissCham would not be possible without the support of the Swiss Embassy in Australia. So, my personal thanks to Ambassador Marcel Stutz, and also to his predecessor Ambassador Dr. Daniel Woker, who have both been great supporters of SwissCham in Australia. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the SwissCham General Manager Marcel Svatos who, together with the members, is a driving force behind the success of SwissCham. I would also like to thank my fellow board members for their loyalty,

support and hard work during my time in office. "I will be now be focussing more on my role as a Director of trade consulting company, and SwissCham member, "Curlett, Cannon & Galbell" assisting organisations, including a number of the SwissCham members, on all aspects of international trade. One of my last official roles as President of SwissCham will be my participation in the Swiss Ambassadors Cup Golf Day, at the Royal Melbourne Golf Course on 13th October, something I am really looking forward to again! "Thank you again for your kind support over these past years and I look forward to seeing you all again soon! "Philip Hocking "

"""No. 1!"A medium sized, high quality, traditional (165 years old) family-owned craft brewery is implementing its expansion plans and Australia is their first port of call. More is to follow and it is planned that the product range will be expanded into their other high quality products, possibly beyond drinks. "For this purpose we are looking at two avenues: 1. The agency solution, or 2. Their own Australian marketing subsidiary, run by a local General Manager. "This is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual! "

No. 2!"SwissCham Australia has received a number of expression of interest by Swiss mineral  water producers who are interested in expanding into the Australian market. Forms of possible cooperation vary depending on the company. However, in any case an existing network and experience within the Australian FMCG sector is a pre-condition to be considered. " "
