DESTINATION CREATION COURSE McCook Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) business leader, Andy Long, has become a certified Facilitator to teach the Destination Creation Course, a class designed to help business owners increases their revenue and customer traffic during the Covid-19 pandemic. Long is the first certi-fied Facilitator in Nebraska and this is the first time that the Destination Creation Course has been available to the state. Long is one of only 48 trained Facilitators in North America. The Destination Creation Course teaches the proven 14-point business success strategy developed by inter-nationally-known business consultant Jon Schallert. Schallert created this methodology after three decades of coaching independent business owners to make their businesses irresistible to customers. Businesses that follow Schallert’s process can attract both local consumers and customers from far beyond the typical geographic market of a business. The course, which can be presented in-person or online by Long has attracted an enthusiastic fol-lowing during the pandemic as owners position themselves for accelerated growth in the post-COVID world. “MEDC was eager to help business owners in our community gain the tools we’ll need to recover and prosper after what we’ve gone through this year,” said Long. “The strategies are practi-cal, affordable, and accessible, and they have made a huge difference in the success of small businesses across the United States and Canada.”The Destination Creation Course consists of downloadable webinars by Schallert, including one on increasing revenue during Covid-19, along with other interviews from top business authors on topics vital to small businesses. 28 YEAR OLD FUGITIVE APPREHENDED A fugitive was apprehended in North Platte Thursday afternoon following a large law enforcement effort among Nebraska State Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and North Platte Police Department. NSP spokes-person Cody Thomas says they received information late Thursday morning on the whereabouts of Rosendo Duran. A Lincoln County arrest warrant had been issued for Duran after he left Great Plains Health in North Platte last Friday night before being officially released. Duran was located along the South Platte River with assistance from an NSP K9 and taken into custody without incident. The 28-year-old North Platte man was then booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center in North Platte. Duran had been taken to the hospital after being arrested following a pursuit in North Platte that afternoon. His medical complaint was unrelated to the pursuit or arrest.

EARLY VOTING APPLICATIONS ON THEIR WAY Early voting applications are on their way to all registered voters in Ne-braska, Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced Thursday. “For voters who have concerns about voting at the polls in November, an early ballot request for a mail-in ballot is a good option,” Evnen said. “Anyone who wishes to vote early should request their ballot as soon as possible.”Some counties, including Douglas, Lancaster, Sarpy, Adams and Phelps, already have or are planning to send applications to their residents. The secretary of state’s announcement means all other Nebraska voters will get an appli-cation from the state, as was done for the May primary election. The first ballots will be mailed Sept. 28 to voters requesting an early ballot. The deadline to request an early ballot is Oct. 23. The U.S. Post Office recom-mends that people return mailed ballots by Oct. 27. Voters can track mailed-in ballots once they are returned on the secretary of state’s website. Nebraska law requires absentee ballots to be received by the end of Elec-tion Day postmarks are irrelevant.

SPORTS The McCook Lady Bison softball team won their fourth straight game,

knocking off Holdrege 6-5 last night. MHS will face Alliance in their first

game of the McCook Invite tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The Lady Bison

volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller in Hastings, falling 15-12 in

the fifth set. The Bison boys tennis team won their second dual of the

fall season, taking all eight varsity matches at Hastings. The Bison

football team shoots for their first win of the season tonight when they

host Crete at Weiland Field. The Wagner Ford pregame on KICX begins

at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7. Hitchcock County will host Bayard on 103.9

The Hawk. The Community Hospital pregame will begin at 5:40. The

Bison cross country teams head to the Cozad Invite tomorrow.

Interest from Nebraska went a long way for Jadon Arakaki. Now the

Hawaiian has decided he is willing to do the same for his future college

baseball home. The left-handed outfielder and 2021 prospect publicly

committed to the Huskers on Wednesday evening following a courtship

that began a few weeks ago when Nebraska coaches saw video of

Arakaki. A preferred walk-on, he becomes the 13th pledge in NU’s

2021 class. “I just felt they really wanted me because they made a

move kind of fast,” Arakaki said. “I always wanted to go to a big col-

lege and experience the full college experience that everyone talks

about. I think Nebraska is just that.”Arakaki had scholarship offers

elsewhere he could have played in the Big West or Summit League, he

said, declining to name the specific schools. But the more he re-

searched the environment and fan support at Nebraska, the more

intrigued he became. Tuition is relatively affordable, he said, and the

university offers his potential majors like business as well as nutrition

and exercise science. Distance from home wasn’t a major considera-

tion, though he said his hobbies of going to the beach and reef fishing

can’t come with him to Lincoln.
