Stowupland High School ‘Outstanding Progress for All’ Home Bullen 5th March 2021 Headteachers Blog Dear parents and carers It is, as ever, my sincere hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well. This is undoubtedly the most excing home bullen I have had the privilege to write at Stowupland. Why? Because it is the last one I write before students return to school next week. To say we are thrilled at the prospect is an understatement. Staff have been working incredibly hard this week to make sure school is ready. And of course, those preparaons have focused on making everything COVID-secure. Staff have undergone refresher training in all the safety measures we will need to implement. Form tutors have started to hold Zoom tutor group sessions to prepare students for coming back to school. We are ready! You will love the World Book Day arcle and the photographs further on. Thank you Miss Leadon. It s a very tricky compeon, but please encourage your children to enter. They stand the chance of winning some fabulous books. My grateful thanks, too, to Mrs Blake for another selecon of wonderful artwork; this me Year 8 students are the stars. We have some highly talented arsts. And thank you to Mr Broom for highlighng the growing number of students who have parcipated fully in the range of PE challenges during lockdown. COVID tesng I wrote last week about the growing opmism for the future, a shared sense that we are starng to emerge from a long dark tunnel into the daylight. The speed of the vaccinaon roll out has been quite astounding. By 1 March, 17,212,804 people in the UK had received their first jab; 599,935 had received two doses. Once again, our incredible NHS has done us proud. Well, I am very proud of our school community too. At the me of wring, we have conducted over 1,000 COVID lateral flow tests in school. Yesterday, we invited our Year 12 and Year 13 students in for their first tests. Today, we briefly welcomed back our Year 11 students. It will be no surprise to you that the staff were magnificent. They were delighted to catch up with students, comment on their growth spurts and lockdown hairstyles (who am I to talk!?) and share their excitement about next week. Our support staff have worked superbly, too, to complete the herculean task of registering our students onto the NHS Test and Trace database as well as making sure that the tesng processes works smoothly. And finally, thank you to you all for your fantasc response. Over 90% of parents and carers have provided consent. This makes our job in school so much easier, but most importantly, it will help to keep us all safe. My best wishes to you all for the weekend, and the week ahead Peter Whear Headteacher

Information and Updates

Rapid Flow Testing Thank you to parents and carers for the huge numbers of completed consent forms received during the past week. A few parents contacted us to say they were experiencing technical issues accessing the form and we were pleased to offer support, where necessary. Many students have told us that they are looking forward to returning to school and understand the need for mass testing. Over 250 tests have been carried out since yesterday and the planned programme has run extremely smoothly. Students are well supported and have shown great maturity during the testing process. Thank you to the admin team who will be registering over 3,000 tests over the next few weeks and to the Covid testing team for undertaking the required training. From 1 March 2021, if you are a member of a household, childcare bubble or support bubble of a student you can get a twice-weekly test: through your employer if they offer testing to employees at a local test site by collecting a home test kit from a test site by ordering a home test kit online Get a test through your employer Your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer to find out more. Take a test at a rapid lateral flow test site You can take a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator. You may need to book an appoint-ment. Find your nearest rapid lateral flow test site. Collect test kits You can collect up to 4 home test kits at a local collection point. Each kit contains 7 tests. Anyone 18 or over can collect. You can check online if the location is busy before you go. Find your nearest home test kit collection point. Order home test kits online If you cannot get tested at your workplace, or are unable to go to a test site or collect test kits, you can order a home test kit online. The online service will be available from 1 March 2021. What twice-weekly testing involves You will be asked to: take a test twice a week (every 3 or 4 days apart) report every result to NHS Test and Trace on the same day you take the test Report your test result online or by calling 119. If anyone tests positive or gets coronavirus symptoms, they should tell the school and: self-isolate immediately get a PCR test to confirm the result follow the stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection A negative result means the test did not find signs of coronavirus. But this does not guarantee you do not have coronavirus, so you should keep following all coronavirus advice including: regular handwashing social distancing wearing a face covering where recommended
