We are so happy that you are joining us to celebrate Children’s Liturgy with your

family today! We encourage you to share these presentation slides with your

children, read to them when needed, lead them in prayer, and explain the Gospel

passages to them. At the end of the presentation there are activity worksheets

attached for the 3+ and 7+ age groups.

First Reading: Jeremiah 20: 7-9You duped me, O LORD, and I let myself be duped;

In Christ There is No East or West

Gospel Reading: Matthew 16: 21-27

Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed on the third day to be raised. Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him. Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does but as human beings do.”

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct.”

Reflection

● Today in the readings we hear about how it may be difficult to believe that God is listening and is there for us. We need to be patient and stay faithful even if it is sometimes tough for us as his followers.

● Jesus will always love us and be there to guide us whenever we need him. We might not realize it, but Jesus is listening to our needs. We also must listen for how he wants to guide us.

● We all have our own journey in faith with God, so do not compare yourself with other people and how they believe. We should show our faith in ways that are pleasing to God.

● Remember that God is always ready to listen whenever you want to pray or have a conversation with him.

● We pray for people in our parish who are nearing the end of their lives on earth and will soon meet you face to face. Lord in your mercy. All: Hear our prayer.

● Lord, thank you for hearing our prayers and knowing what is best for us. We make all our prayers through Christ our Lord. All: Amen!

Closing prayer

God of love, teach us how to love the world as you do. Let us show care and respect for everyone so all people, now and in the future, can live in harmony and peace together. Amen.
