Commissions’ Corner As we embrace summer in all of its glory, we will say good bye, albeit temporarily, to the Com-mission’s Corner column. We
hope that you have enjoyed reading the reflections brought to you by our four Commissions: Worship, Evangelization, Christian Service, Religious Formation and on the fifth weekend of any month, the Parish Council. Fr. Greg saw this as a way to give witness to our Christian life. Each Commission offers a different per-spective that hopefully you found en-lightening and hopeful. The Parish Council has the honor of hav-ing the last article for this term year and we offer you to consider this question: What should I be giving back to my church? How often have we come to ex-pect many things from our church, our pastor, or from God? Our relationship with God is not a one-way street. God’s love for us always remains but we must reciprocate that same love back through prayer, meditation, acts of charity, kind-ness, etc. The same is true for our parish church of St. Pio. Please do not forget that we need to con-tinue to give back to our parish. We hope that you will pledge to the CSA, volun-teer at the Fun Fest for an hour, make some time in the coming winter to work the Midday Meal Program, spend some time on Mondays in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, donate supplies for the Religious Education Program, or in-vite a friend to attend Mass. These and many other ways are examples of how to give back. Our column will be back in October and in the meantime, have a safe, relaxing, and blessed summer. St. Pio Parish Council

Prayer for the Nation God of our forebears,
in tumultuous times our ancestors made their way
to a new land, seeking prosperity and peace. The wealth of a new nation lay before them,
as well as the challenge to use wisely the gifts of the good earth
and the industriousness of a people forged in the crucible of revolution
and the high-minded ideals of life and liberty. Strengthen within us the pursuit of justice,
the desire for equality, the love of true freedom.
May all the citizens of our country work unceasingly to promote the common good
so that all may share in the pursuit of happiness sought by the founders of our land.
Amen.

Turn Ordinary Tasks into Prayer Time
I wish I had more time for________. You fill in the
blank. We’re always wishing we had more time to get certain things done. For me one of those things is my daily pray-ers. I’ve learned over the years that sometimes it takes being creative to find the right amount of time to get things done in one day. I’ve found one of the ways to better multi task is to incorpo-rate my prayers right into things I do each and every day. Prayer is like a con-tinual conversation with God. We pray and we interact with God, just as we would with our family, friends and co-workers. I’ve had people share the ways that they have blended prayer right into their reg-ular routines. It is wonderful to see the creative ways to stay connected with God, especially during a busy day. One idea of taking time for a short prayer was before you drive somewhere. As you get into your car, pause and ask God to bless your travels. When pumping gas I al-ways pray for the homeless who have to live out in nature’s elements. Stuck at a traffic light, pray for someone you may have hurt or said something bad to. See a memorial on the side of the road; remem-ber to offer a prayer for that person, but also the family who is living with the loss. The sound of sirens for police and medical vehicles always gets a quick prayer for safety for all those involved. Give up the evening news before you go to bed. Try a peaceful song to help bring a restful end to your day. Sometimes it is just finding those brief moments to re-member to thank God who gave us eve-rything. What ways can you incorporate prayer into your busy day?

Faith Formation Youth Ministry: The Faith Formation Office will be closed from Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 8 for the Fourth of
July Holiday! We will reopen on July 9th with our "Summer Hours" which are: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday from Noon until 5:00 p.m. Please have a safe and Happy Fourth of July! Children at Vacation Bible School (VBS) who were "Shipwrecked" learned that they can be rescued by Jesus for many different reasons. When they are lonely, worried, struggling, when they do wrong and when they are powerless...Jesus res-cues! We listened to many bible passages also that showed this to us: From Jesus telling parables about lost things (coins, sheep and a son), Martha worrying and complaining, Jesus' friends trying to res-cue him in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus welcoming a criminal who was dy-ing on the cross beside him, and Peter and Paul healing a lame man in Jesus' name. All show the power Jesus has to rescue! The songs, the videos, the bible stories, the themed snacks and the Children made the whole experience of VBS a wonderful one! Don't forget to keep looking for those "God Sightings", they are everywhere! A "God Sighting" is evidence of God. We look for him in everything we taste, smell, see, touch and hear. It could be a prayer, a hug from a parent, the sunshine, or a kind word from a friend. Check out our "Rescue Raft" at the back of church. The patches on our sail were all the "God Sightings" the Children saw during VBS week. Each patch represents the God Sightings for that day by each crew. The patches helped us to set sail and be res-cued. God is good!
Thanks again to ALL that helped through your donations and hard work. VBS 2018 was awesome!

Music Notes
Greetings,
I am very happy to join the min-istry team here at St. Pio. I have been a music minister in the
Archdiocese of Detroit for 18 years now. Before you comment on how young I look, just know that I had my first music minis-try position at a very young age: I played the morning hymns for our Sunday School class at age 6. My ministry has blossomed over the years and hopefully will continue to flourish at St. Pio. I am a graduate of Indiana University (BA in Music) (M. Ed.) and I am currently fin-ishing a Master of Arts degree in Music and Worship from Liberty University. My hope is to continue in my education and earn a Ph.D. in Music and Worship as well. I enjoy researching the origins of hymns and their composers, and I often share these nuggets in the bulletin. Currently, I reside in Detroit with my wife, Jujuana (pronounced Ju-JUAN-A), and our four children: Jade (11), Jennifer (1), and twins William Sean, Jr. and William Jacob Pierce (7wks). We also have a cat: Little Cat, whom we call LC. I grew up on the westside of Detroit, and I attended St. Su-zanne School. I graduated from Cody High. I am a convert to the faith; confirmed by Cardinal Maida in 2007. I was reared in the C.M.E. (Christian Methodist Episco-pal) church, and it was there that I re-ceived the call to music ministry. I am grateful to have had a faith experience and the discernment to recognize my gifts from God at an early age. Victor Hugo once said: "Music expresses that which words cannot." I believe that to be true and it is my highest honor to lead God's chosen in worship. We learn in Old Testament Scripture, that God created us for the sole purpose of worship. Taking this further, we are encouraged to be ac-tively, consciously, and fully involved in our liturgy. I LOVE to hear the congrega-tion sing and God does too. Do not worry about having the most pleasant voice, con-gregational singing is one of the most im-portant aspects of corporate worship. A congregation that sings and prays together is a blessing to God. I often ask, What if God responds to us in the way we choose to worship? I look forward to worshipping together…
Bon Mot: "We should know and celebrate God with our whole person." -Craig S. Keener
All best,
William S. Harrison Director of Music

St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the
Holy Spirit at work with our newest ministry! Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
Mary Most Holy, as a young woman living in obscurity you nurtured with loving care the Word of God made flesh. Please protect and accompany all young men and women, especially from our parish, who are called to a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. Amen.
