A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR….

Dear Parishioners, It is with profound sadness that I write you this letter. As many of you know, the clergy sex abuse scandal is a terrible scourge on the Church and when it is in the news, a constant reminder of how the most innocent, the victims, were let down and made to suffer at the hand of members of the clergy. During the summer we were once again made aware of the sad fact that the Catholic Church is embroiled in the terrible scandal. The accounts of Cardinal McCarrick’s abuse of seminarians, junior clergy and a minor, the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report, and the recent letter from Archbishop Vigano demon-strate that the Church still needs to seriously come to terms with the issue and reform itself. If you have not yet done so, I encourage you to read the letter from Bishop DiMarzio (printed in last week’s bulletin) and to pick up a copy of Deacon Alex Breviario’s August 19th homily. Copies of the Bishop’s letter and Deacon Alex’s homily are located in the church vestibule. As a Church, we need to continue to support victims of abuse and to encourage all who have been hurt to come forward to tell their story. Likewise, we need to pray for a spirit of reform to sweep the Church clean of all this evil. Moments of crisis need to remind us all to return to the roots of Faith. Belief in the One True God means we cannot divide our hearts and give them over to the idols of money, power and position. Only fidelity to the great commandments of God, that bind us as a community, will bring us through this difficult time. As a beginning of this change, I invite you to participate in an afternoon of prayer and reparation on September 8th from Noon to 6:00 pm. The afternoon will begin with the rosary at noon, continue with adoration and penance, and conclude with the regularly scheduled Mass at 5:00 pm. I also ask that after this date the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel be said at the conclusion of all the parish Masses, after the dismissal and before the final hymn, as a way of asking for heavenly assistance during this time of great need. Together, let us pray for one another and for the Church that Christ entrusted to our care. May He return to find great faith among his people. Sincerely, Yours in Christ,

Fr. Marc Swarvagher

Our Lady of Grace Soccer is asking for your support for their 25th anniversary dinner dance on September 8 at Roma View Catering. Since 1993, Our Lady of Grace Soccer Association has been building and providing a welcoming environment for the youth of Southern Queens community. This year they are honoring Melinda Murray for her strong commitment to developing awareness and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest. Melinda’s foundation, The Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation, has sponsored our indoor soccer program tournaments, multiple other organization events, as well as donated a life-saving automated external defibrillator (AED) that our coaches now have at hand at every game and practice. Melinda’s extraordinary commitment to our youth continues to be exhibited through the foundation by providing screening events for students and young adults ages 12 to 25 and youth CPR training which includes AED training.

Our fundraising efforts are necessary for our programs to continue. Your donation will help support the develop-ment of children between the ages of three to fourteen. In addition to participating in fall and spring CYO soccer seasons, they have an indoor program in the winter and an instructional camp during the summer. However, the program’s impact goes far beyond the age of fourteen as the children of our program continue to use the morals, team focus, skill and abilities throughout their life and social interactions. With your support, the organization can continue to impact children’s lives in our community year-round.

The Our Lady of Grace Soccer Association is a 501(c)(3) organization; therefore, your donation is tax deductible. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, they are available via their website: www.olgsoccer.com. If you have any questions, please contact us via email: [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Dr. Jerome Antonino, Jon Rosen, Kevin McNally and the Our Lady of Grace Soccer Fundraising Committee
