Saint Gabriel the Archangel Saddle River

Epiphany can be understood as an extension of the Na-tivity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25. While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations, Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts magi who come from far distant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians reveals that the Light of the world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews, Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gather-ing of diverse peoples, but this time it is to the light that ema-nates from the people of God. Happy New Year! Fr. Frank

REPORTING SEXUAL ABUSE

The Archdiocese requires us and all parishes to provide the following infor-mation to the general public. We do so here as a sign of our commitment to the safety of our children. In every activity of St. Gabriel’s Parish, parents are en-

couraged to participate. Every employee and volunteer has passed a background check. Mrs. Patricia Pula serves as our Safe Environment Coordinator. The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so that we may take appropriate action to protect others and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. Individu-als who wish to report an allegation of sexual misconduct may do so by calling the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protec-tion at (201) 407-3256.

St. Gabriel's continues to collect Box Tops for St. Michael's School in Newark. The Box Top program is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since 1996. With over 250 participating prod-ucts, it’s an easy way for schools to earn cash for the things they need. Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢ and they add up fast! The coupons are on products we buy at our local supermar-kets everyday. St. Michael's will be able to use the Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need most, from books to supplies and other school programs. So please look for these coupons on your groceries and start to clip. There is a collection box display in the lobby of the church. As always, thank you for your support of St. Michael's.
