The Women’s Dinner

and a Book Club Move into summer with the Women’s

Dinner and a Book Group as they read

about “The Woman in the Window” by

A. J. Finn. This book won 4 ½ stars on Amazon and is

soon to be a major motion picture. We will be meeting

on Thursday, June 27th at 6:30pm in the Garrett

Fellowship Hall and our June hostess is Sheryl Decker.

Here is a bit about the book as found on the back

cover:

It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .

Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City

home, unable to venture outside. She spends her days

drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies,

recalling happier times . . and spying on her neighbors.

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a

father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family.

But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees

something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—

and its shocking secrets are laid bare.

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who

is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no

one—and nothing—is what it seems.

Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The

Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel

of psychological suspense that recalls the best of

Hitchcock—an unforgettable thriller that Gillian Flynn

calls “amazing.”

A. J. Finn has written for numerous publications,

including the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post,

and the Times Literary Supplement (UK). A native of

New York, Finn lived in England for almost a decade

before returning to New York City. His debut novel, The

Woman in the Window, has been published in 41

languages worldwide.

There are several copies of the book at the Western

Regional library website (Putnam County) and the

Kanawha County Library. You can also find it at your

local bookstore or online.

Our hostess will supply the main dish and other group

members will bring the rest of the dinner like salad,

dessert, fruit, rolls/butter. You can call Sheryl at 248-224-

6975 for information about the menu. Newcomers are

always welcome, and it isn’t necessary to have read

the book. You only need to let us know that you plan to

come, there’s a place at the table set just for you.

A Knight of the Golden Horseshoe Congratulations to Ethan Markins who was made

a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe on May 3, 2019.

Many in our congregation have received this

award in the past. Please welcome Ethan into this

auspicious group. Here is a picture of him receiv-

ing his Golden Horseshoe Pin from Governor Jim

Justice.

Vacation Bible School Bible School will be held Tuesday,

Wednesday and Thursday eve-

ner at 5:30 pm and program from 6

- 8 pm. We will be using a new cur-

riculum, "Who Is My Neighbor?"

from the Mennonite Church. Neighbors are more

than the people in our families or communi-

ties. Through Bible stories, games and crafts partic-

ipants will learn more about God's great love and

what it means to be a neighbor and to live out our

faith. Children ages 3 years through fifth grade,

youth and adults are welcome. For more infor-

mation contact Laura Leslie,

[email protected] or 304-881-8213.

ogy.
