Bak, Université de Lorraine S S ince this past January, IDEA has been very productive in terms of its publications. In addition to the individual articles placed by various members, three important books were completed. The first book, Enjeux et posi- tionnments de l’interdisciplinarité, was jointly edited by Claudine Armand, Vanessa Boullet and David Ten Eyck and proposes a theoretical reflection on the position that interdisciplinarity has taken within academic research. The second book, Literature and Spirituality in the English-speaking World, was co-edited by Kathie Birat and Brigitte Zaugg. This collection comple- ments the book British Literature and Spirituality (co-edited by Franz Wöhrer and John S. Bak) published last autumn and focuses more widely on the litera- tures of America and the Common- wealth. BPTI 2 (see insert) is the sec- ond volume of the series “Book Practices & Textual Itineraries” edited by Nathalie Collé-Bak, Monica Latham and David Ten Eyck. This volume “presents multiple facets of how texts are read, exchanged and understood in the con- temporary digital climate.” Several other books are current- ly in production or in press, and we will likely see them in the coming autumn. As for IDEA’s non-print research conducted over the past few months, members were treated to a talk given within IDEA’s Seminar Series. Roberto Herrscher, from the University of Barcelona, recounted his days as a con- script soldier in the Argentinian army during the Falklands War of 1982 (see The second year of the quinquennial finds its projects advancing: 3 books, 1 conference and several seminars and roundtables since January insert). He returned several years later to interview the various soldiers— Argentinian and British alike—he encountered during the war. These interviews formed the basis of his reportage, The Voyages of Penelope. In early June, IDEA co-spon- sored a one-day symposium on literary journalism and World War I (see insert). Scholars from England, France, Germany and Spain discussed the role literature took in the way the War’s non- traditional journalism was reported. These reportages are now being con- sidered important testimonies of the War, finding their rightful place along- side the memoirs and letters written by the soldiers themselves. The project “Théorisation de l’interdisciplinarité” (see insert) held a roundtable in March to discuss two works: Joe Moran’s Interdisciplinarity and a chapter on the institutionalization of anthropology by Carole Reynaud- Paligot. A book of position papers on the institutionalization of English Studies in France today is being con- sidered for 2015. Finally, members of the project on “Oralité” met last April to discuss the macro- and micro-markers present in various podcasts on animal phero- mones. Analyzing the spontanous sci- entific discourse of the pod casts led to various debates about how, among other things, scientific discourse is oral- ly constructed. § Claudine Armand, Vanessa Boullet, et David Ten Eyck, dirs. SSSS ince this past January, IDEA hasbeen very productive in terms ofits publications. In addition to the

individual articles placed by variousmembers, three important books werecompleted.

The first book, Enjeux et posi-tionnments de l’interdisciplinarité, wasjointly edited by Claudine Armand,Vanessa Boullet and David Ten Eyckand proposes a theoretical reflection onthe position that interdisciplinarity hastaken within academic research.

The second book, Literature andSpirituality in the English-speakingWorld, was co-edited by Kathie Birat andBrigitte Zaugg. This collection comple-ments the book British Literature andSpirituality (co-edited by Franz Wöhrerand John S. Bak) published last autumnand focuses more widely on the litera-tures of America and the Common-wealth.

BPTI 2 (see insert) is the sec-ond volume of the series “BookPractices & Textual Itineraries” edited byNathalie Collé-Bak, Monica Latham andDavid Ten Eyck. This volume “presentsmultiple facets of how texts are read,exchanged and understood in the con-temporary digital climate.”

TTTT his academic year’s second « Rencontre » wasdedicated to preparing PhD students to conductresearch in various archives. Its theme

was « Travailler dans les archives : de la préparation àl’exploitation» .

F i r s t ,R é m i - O l i v i e rCayatte (photoright), a third-yearPhD student atthe Université deLorraine, present-ed a talk on thepopular video-game Minecraft.

The presentation was taken from a chapter ofhis thesis. The talk sparked a lively discussion on thedifficulties and merits of using sociology’s methodologi-cal tools in English studies today.

During the second half of the evening, JeremyTranmer and John Bak both shared their expe-riences working in various public and privatearchives over the past few years. Together,they provided a sort of “How to” guide to usingarchives to produce original research.Jeremy’s talk was on private archives relatedto the British Communist Party, and John’swas on Tennessee Williams’s autobiographicalwritings.

The presentation of both civilization and literarydocuments in private and public institutions allowed stu-dents to see how different disciplines can exploitarchival research and to what extent they require differ-ent preparatory work well in advance of the researchvisit.

Preparations for next year’s « Rencontres » arecurrently in the works. Steven Paschall will present a talkin November, and Charlotte Wensierski will present herresearch in progress in March 2015.

Any suggestions for research themes to accom-pany these doctoral student presentations are welcome.Please contact John Bak as soon as possible. §

IDEA Seminar Series, 2014:“Reflections on My War,”Roberto Herrscher,University of Barcelona

TTTT he final presentation of this year’s IDEA SeminarSeries took place on 14 May. The speaker, RobertoHerrscher (photo below), gave an impassioned talk

about the writing of his literary reportage, The Voyages of thePenelope (hard cover and paperback in Spanish by Tusquets,2007 and 2009, paperback in English by Südpol, 2010). ThePenelope was a wooden sailing vessel commendeered by theArgentinian navy following its invasion of the Falkland Islandson 2 April 1982. Roberto, then only seventeen, was a con-script placed aboard the ship so as to serve as interpreter forits English captain.

Twenty-four years later, Roberto returned to theMalvinas, the Argentinian name for the islands, to tell the storyof the boat and its crew. He interviewed his former crew mem-

bers, and even several British veterans,including the former captain of thePenelope. As Roberto writes, it “is the storyof the people I went to war with. My six com-rades, who were as different from me asteenagers can be. It is also the story of theFalkland islanders whose land we invaded.It is the story of the vessel where I spent

most of the war.”Roberto realized that the real protagonist of his story

was going to be the boat itself, so he used his skills as a liter-ary journalist and journalism educator to recount a historicallyaccurate but thoroughly engaging narrative about the boat’sadventures. “Reading American literary journalists like JohnHersey, Michael Herr, Seymour Hersh, Alma Guillermoprietoand Jon Lee Anderson, and also Ryszard Kapuscinski and myyoung compatriots Daniel Riera and Juan Ayala took me to theother side of the river, to the possibility of finding my theme,my structure and my voice, writing my first book and finallycombing back from the war”, he writes.

In his two-hour talk, Roberto discussed how narrativenon-fiction serves “as lighthouses that guide us in the writingof our own stories and books.” His talk was part of theresearch project ReportAGES on “Literary Journalism andWar.”

Roberto is the director of the Master in Journalism atthe University of Barcelona. He teaches seminars onReporting Conflicts and Historic Memory for the Academy ofthe German Public Broadcast DW in Latin America, Europeand Asia, narrative journalism at the Ibero-American NewJournalism Foundation (FNPI) in Cartagena, Colombia andthe Thomson Foundation (UK), among other institutions. Hewas a visiting scholar at Ithaca College (US) in 2012. §

OOOO n 7 June, Nancy played host to schol-ars of literary journalism fromEngland, Germany, Spain and

France, who presented their research on warreportage at the one-day symposium,“Literary Journalism and World War I.”

Uniting the work of literary journalistsfrom both sides of the trenches, the confer-ence aimed to assess the impact literary jour-nalism had on various nations’ reporting dur-ing the Great War (including pieces written bythe soldiers themselves and published in thevarious nations’ trench journals and newspa-pers) and how those stories might help toreconfigure certain historical legacies, jour-nalistic heuristics and literary representationsof the War in the twenty-first century.

John Bak began the day discussingthe literary qualities of the War’s trench jour-nals, simple newspapers produced byFrench, British, German and Canadian sol-diers for their battalions. Andrew Griffiths(Exeter) spoke about how narrative strate-gies of fiction were essential tools for the cor-respondent who wished to engage his audi-ence with the news. Sara Prieto García-Cañedo (Alicante) talked about muckrakerWill Irwin’s reportage, A Reporter atArmaggedon, while Charlotte Purkis(Winchester) detailed Velona Pilcher’swartime literary journalism. Soenke Zehle(Saar) looked into the graphic journalism ofFrans Masereel, and Elodie Karaki (Aix) dis-cussed the témoignage d’un soldat, byGabriel Bounoure, for the Revue de Paris,

IIIIlllllustr4tio is a research group devot-ed to illustration studies. It wasfounded by four French academics,

(Sophie Aymes, Nathalie Collé-Bak,Brigitte Friant-Kessler, Maxime Leroy) andaims at bringing together illustrators, print-makers, publishers, curators, collectorsand researchers who have a common interest in illustra-tion in all its facets from the 16th to the 21st centuries.

The founding members (one of whom, NathalieCollé-Bak, is an IDEA member) welcome a variety ofapproaches, among which print culture, material cultureand the history of the book. We are glad of a chance todelve into the practical and technical aspects of illustrationand to get illustration practitioners involved. Our primaryfield of investigation is the Anglophone world, but we arealso open to other geographicalspheres.

We hope to help make illus-tration and its ever-expandingmodes of practice a field of researchin their own right, and to provide astimulating framework for multifac-eted and interdisciplinary research.Our goal is also to set up and devel-op an international and intermedialcollaborative network of practitioners and researcherswho convene regularly on the subject, discuss new innov-ative subject matter and contribute to research activities,resources and experimental approaches.

We are planning a first series of symposia that willtake place at each of our universities in 2014 and 2015(Dijon, Nancy, Mulhouse and Valenciennes). These will befollowed by a major international conference in 2016.

The working languages of our network areFrench, English and drawing. We will publish the fruits of

our research and activitiesonline and in paper publica-tions.

Our website will soonbe ready for visitors. Once it is,please visit it regularly and feelfree to contribute by sending usinformation about current andupcoming events (conferences,seminars, exhibitions, etc.),reports on illustration-relatedevents, calls for papers or forcontributions, PhDs/Thèses

field of illustration and interest our visitors.

Illustr4tio’s first Symposium: “The Birth of Images / La Naissance des Images,”Dijon, 4 April 2014

Illustr4tio held its first symposium on 4 April 2014 atthe Université de Bourgogne in Dijon. The event wasco-organized by the Université de Bourgogne (EA4182 TIL), Université de Haute Alsace (EA 4363ILLE), Université de Lorraine (EA 2338 IDEA) andUniversité de Valenciennes (EA 4343 Calhiste), and

it was a great success.“Illustration: The Birth of Images” was chosen as

the inaugural theme by the organizers, who invitedresearchers, publishers, artists and other practitioners toparticipate in a reflection on to the genesis and creation ofillustrations.

Some of the basic questions asked were: how doimages come to be? And what are the material and aes-thetic constraints that apply at their birth? Participants

were invited to deal with the early stages of col-laboration between artists and writers, illustra-tors’ preparatory works (sketchbooks, studies,and underdrawings), methods of (pre)visualisa-tion, thought processes, or autobiographicalwritings. The study of new techniques, modesof reproduction and the medium’s material andsensorial characteristics were also encour-aged. Papers could also consider how the cre-ation of an illustrative image is thematized with-

in the work that is illustrated. Contributors were invited totackle the issues linked to the emergence and the unveil-ing of the image, its materialization, and its ability to cap-ture the figural. Abandoned illustration projects, or thefleeting nature of an illustrator’s vision, and the difficulty orimpossibility of giving substance to images, were also putunder examination.

The participants came from various parts ofFrance, Lebanon, the UK and the US. The internationaland bilingual gathering was attended by scholars and col-leagues, as well as by master’s and doctoral students. Itstarted with Ashley Potter, program leader at PlymouthUniversity (BA Hons Illustration) and freelance illustrator,whose talk, entitled “Girl & Bird: an investigation into visu-al inspiration and subsequent processes of development,”was based on an investigation into visual inspiration andsubsequent processes of development.

The day continued with PhD student and free-lance artist Elissar Kanso (Université de Bordeaux 3), whostudied Fine Arts in Beirut, Lebanon and who is currentlywriting a thesis entitled “Painting using PhotographicImages in the Post-pictorial moment.” In “Le croquis

numérique comme préalable à l’acte de peindre”, Elissaraddressed the issue of digital sketching (viaPhotoshop and Illustrator mostly) and itsinfluence on her work, not only as apreparatory stage but also as part of thecreative process.

A presentation by John Stanko,assistant professor of graphic design at theUniversity of South Florida SaintPetersburg University, followed. Looking atvarious strategies to create originals in adigital age and examples from differentillustrators, John addressed the benefitsand drawbacks of digital illustration, from technical as wellas financial and legal points of view.

The morning session concluded with guest speakerMartin Rowson, a world-famous cartoonist, illustrator andwriter, who presented to the audience a massively illustrat-ed and characteristically visually and orally stimulating talkentitled “Graphic novels, static films and the first 32,000years of visual satire.”

The afternoon session began with our secondguest speaker, Jim Butler (Seamus de Buitleir), a Dublin-born illustrator, printmaker and lecturer at CambridgeSchool of Art, Anglia Ruskin University. In a presentationbeautifully entitled “Seeing with your hands,” Jim drew fromhis experiences as a teacher, as well as an artist, to addressthe question of illustration not only from a material, but alsofrom a deeply personal and psychological perspective. Wethen heard PhD researcher Nanette Hoogslag, from theRoyal College of Art in London, on “The birth, death andrebirth (?) of editorial illustration”, an exploration of theemerging field of online editorial illustration.

Next, Hélène Ibata, senior lecturer at the Universitéde Strasbourg and a specialist of William Blake and eigh-teenth- and nine-teenth- centuryBritish art, present-ed a paper entitled“From landscapeillustrations to illus-trated travels: DavidRoberts in Egyptand the Levant.”

This wasfollowed by “Fromtravel to book: themaking of the illustrations of travel books on Egypt pub-lished in nineteenth-century Britain,” a talk by CarolineLehni, senior lecturer at the Institut d’Études Politiques ofStrasbourg, whose research at the crossroads of art historyand cultural studies focuses on the visual representations ofother cultures. After that, Catherine Allamel-Raffin, seniorlecturer at the Université de Strasbourg and a member ofIRIST research centre, took us into the realm of scientificillustration with a talk entitled “La question de l’objectivité etl’illustration scientifique.” Catherine questioned the possibil-

ity of producing unbiased scientific images and challegedthe concept of objectivity bylooking at the way images areproduced in the fields of materi-al physics, astrophysics andpharmacology. T h eafternoon ended with a paper byPhilippe Nieto, curator and headlibrarian at the ArchivesNationales. In “Illustrer le faitdivers,” Philippe explored thedepiction of crime in the nine-teenth-century French sensa-

tional press, focusing on the various types of photograph-ical illustrations that were then available. §

A New IDEA PublicationBy Nathalie Collé-BakUniversité de Lorraine

NNNN athalie Collé-Bak, Monica Latham and DavidTen Eyck have just published volume 2 of their“Book Practices & Textual Itineraries” series. It

is entitled Textual Practices in the Digital Age.“Book Practices & Textual Itineraries” is a series of

peer-reviewed book-length publications devoted to thestudy of book history and textual scholarship. Publishedby the PUN–Éditions Universitaires de Lorraine, with aninternational editorial advisory board, the series aims tofacilitate dialogue on these subjects between scholarsfrom France, Europe and the English-speaking world.

While each individual volume of BPTI focuses ona specific topic, the aim of the series as a whole is to traceevolutions in the production, transmission and reception ofbooks and texts over time and across cultural and discipli-nary boundaries. It likewise provides a venue for scholar-ship that examines new practices which have escalated inresponse to the acceleration of textual production andexchange provoked by electronic media, and that consid-ers the significance of such practices for the editing andinterpretation of literary works.

BPTI 2 presents multiple facets of how texts areread, exchanged and understood in the contemporary dig-ital climate. As technological advances bring into beingnew book practices and open a wide range of previouslyunexplored textual itineraries, it is imperative that scholarsadopt fresh critical tools to engage with these develop-ments and the polymorphous works that result from them.These essays contribute to this perpetual questioning,readjusting, redefining and reconfiguring of such keynotions as author, writer, text, book, production, editing,printing, publishing and reading. They take part in ongoingefforts to trace the contours of a broad and amorphousfield of studies that is coming into being at the confluenceof digital technologies, the humanities, textual scholarshipand book history. §

John S. Bak was named Visiting SeniorScholar at Wolfson College, University of Oxford, forthe academic year 2014–2015. While there, he will par-ticipate in the Oxford Centre for Life-Writing, where hewill deliver seminars and complete a monograph onTennessee Williams’s Memoirs. Since January, he haspublished two articles: “A Broken Romance: TennesseeWilliams and America’s Mid-century Theatre Culture” inThe Theatre of Tennessee Williams, ed. Brenda Murphy(London: Methuen, 2014), 205–31; and “Afterword” inGlobal Literary Journalism: Exploring the JournalisticImagination, vol. 2, eds. Richard Lance Keeble andJohn Tulloch (Brussels: Peter Lang, 2014), 293–95. Healso presented two talks: “Trench Journals: World War Iand Literary Journalism” at IALJS 9, the AmericanUniversity in Paris, 15–17 May; and “The ‘Broken Devil’of Comox Street: Daniel MacIvor, Tennessee Williamsand Canadian Biodrama” at “Theater, Performance,Philo-sophy: Crossings and Transfers in ContemporaryAnglo-American Thought”, the Université Paris–Sorbonne, 28–30 June. He also was invited to partici-pate on two panels at the 28th Tennessee Williams/NewOrleans Literary Festival, from 19–23 March: “Tenn-essee Williams’s Women” & “Tennessee Williams andBroadway.” Finally, on 7 June, he organized a one-dayconference on “Literary Journalism and World War I” atthe Université de Lorraine as part of the ConseilGénérale’s UNESCO project.

Marilyne Brun was invited by the University ofSouthern California in Los Angeles last Apri to speak onAustralian mixed-race literatures. She presented aseminar, in collaboration with Brian Castro, on racialhybridity in his works, and participated in literary eventsorganised by Kaya Press. Marilyne has continued herwork on the institutionalization of disciplines, and hasstarted researching the history of Australian studies inFrance.

Nathalie Collé-Bak has been co-editing, withDavid Ten Eyck and Monica Latham, the latest volumesof the “Book Practices and Textual Itineraries” series.Textual Practices in the Digital Age (BPTI 2) came outin April 2014; Contemporary Textual Aesthetics (BPTI 3)and From Text(s) to Book(s): Studies in Production andEditorial Processes (BPTI 4) will come out later thisyear. She co-organized, with colleagues Sophie Aymes(Université de Bourgogne), Brigitte Friant-Kessler(Université de Valenciennes) and Maxime Leroy(Université de Haute-Alsace), the first internationalsymposium of the research network Illustratio, “TheBirth of Images”, which was held at the Université deBourgogne in Dijon on 4 April 2014. She also recentlygave two papers: one entitled “Illustration et énoncia-tion éditoriale, ou faire du livre un espace de négocia-tions”, at the Centre d’Histoire Culturelle des SociétésContem-poraines de l’Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Pôle Métiers du Livre, Université

Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, on 30 January 2014;and “Re-telling Stories Through Images: Gulliver’sMultiple Travels and Publics, 1720s–2010s”, at the inter-national conference on “Illustration and NarrativeConstruction” organized by the Université Paris Dideroton 28–29 March 2014. She was invited to take over thefunction of editor of The Recorder, the newsletter of theInternational John Bunyan Society, and was entrustedwith its complete redesigning and digitalizing. She par-ticipated, as a member of the Executive Committee ofthe IJBS, in a meeting held at Harlington manor,Bedfordshire, on 23 May 2014.

Au cours du premier semestre 2014, AnissaDahak a participé au colloque international “Sym-posium on Historical Phonology” à Edimbourg les 13–14janvier 2014. Elle y a présenté un poster intitulé “Whatvowels in syllables which don’t bear the main stressfrom Old English to contemporary English?”. Depuis jan-vier 2014, conjointement avec les autres membres duprojet « Oralité », Anissa a sélectionné et transcrit unnouveau corpus oral. Elle y poursuit ses recherches surles marqueurs de discours, en portant son attention par-ticulièrement sur “so.”

Pierre Degott a participé les 20 et 21 mars 2014au colloque international « Les théâtres anglais etfrançais au miroir l’un de l’autre, XVIe–XVIIIe siècles »organisé par l’IRCL à l’Université Paul Valéry–Montpellier 3. Il y a présenté avec Bénédicte Louvat-Molozay une communication à deux voix intitulée « D’unopéra l’autre : Saint-Évremond entre deux scèneslyriques ». Au mois de janvier, Pierre Degott était à Parispour la tenue du colloque « La mesure et l’excès » qu’ila co-organisé pour la SÉAA XVII–XVIII. Il travaille en cemoment, pour la revue Musicorum, à un article consacréà la représentation de la figure du Christ dans l’oratorioanglais des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles. Il est également entrain de travailler à la conception et à l’élaboration d’unnuméro spécial de la même revue.

Jean-Philippe Heberlé a publié un article intit-ulé « De la pertinence des transferts artistiques entrepeinture et musique à travers trois toiles de PeterLanyon (1918–1964), pionnier de l’abstraction britan-nique ? », Enjeux et positionnements de l’interdiscipli-narité / Positioning Interdisciplinarity (Nancy : PUN–Éditions Universitaires de Lorraine, 2014). Dans lecadre du spectacle « GERSCHWIN Dance » programméles 28 février, 1 et 2 mars 2014, il a participé à la ren-contre-débat qui a eu lieu à l’issue de la projection de lacomédie musicale Un américain à Paris de VicenteMinnelli au Caméo Ariel (Metz) (21 février) et a donnéune conférence intitulée « Qu’est-ce que la comédiemusicale : sa naissance, sa genèse et l’homme GER-SCHWIN » à l’Opéra-Théâtre de Metz-Métropole (22février).

Chloé Lucidarme poursuit son travail consacréau capitalisme et à ses métaphores dans les pièces enun acte de début de carrière de Eugene O’Neill.Dernièrement, ses recherches ont abouti à un article etun poster. Son article « “God knows your salary is smallenough” : le couple o’neillien et l’argent » paraîtra dansla revue Inter-lignes 12 : « De l’argent et des arts »(Printemps 2014) ; et son poster, intitulé « Le Coupleo’neillien et l’argent », a été presenté lors de la JournéeJeunes Chercheurs à l’École Doctorale Stanislas le 10juin à Nancy.

Peterson Nnajiofor a publié un article intitulé« Investissements chinois et occidentaux en Afrique :analyse comparative » dans Informations et Commen-taires, le développement en questions, no. 165 :« Désordres et conflictualités », éd. Patrice Allard(décembre 2013).

Lors du congrès de la SAES à Caen, du 16 au18 mai, Roseline Théron a animé le seul atelier duCentre de Recherches et d’Études sur la CivilisationBritannique (CRECIB) consacré au Soft Power britan-nique. Le programme rassemblait six participants dontJeremy Tranmer, si bien qu’IDEA était doublementreprésenté à cette occasion. Une publication en co-édi-tion est en projet, portant sur les dimensions actuellesdu Soft Power et du Smart Power et les rôles respectifsdes États-Unis, du Royaume-Uni et des nouveauxacteurs tels que les Chinois. Roseline représente aussiIDEA au sein du comité d’édition oeuvrant à la publica-tion des actes du colloque Nancy Renaissance de juin2013.

Yann Tholoniat travaille sur Burns, Blake etOwen. Sur Burns, un article intitulé « Du haggis et duwhisky : poétique et politique de l’ekphrasis chez RobertBurns » vient de paraître dans Écrire l’art / Writing Art(Paris, Mare & Martin, 2014), 125–37, tandis qu’il ter-mine un article sur les rapports entre Burns et Jean-Jacques Rousseau, et qu’un article intitulé « RobertBurns: Nature’s Bard and Nature’s Powers » vient d’êtreaccepté à publication par les Études Écossaises. Il aparticipé à la rédaction du catalogue de la future expo-sition 1914, La mort des poètes qui se tiendra à laBibliothèque Nationale Universitaire de Strasbourg (enpartenariat avec la Bodleian Library d’Oxford et leDeutsches Literaturarchiv de Marbach) du 23 septembreau 20 décembre 2014, en rédigeant des notices sur lesdocuments et poèmes liés à Wilfred Owen. LLLL e colloque sur les lais bre-tons co-organisé par Paris3, Paris 4 et IDEA s’est

déroulé dans une ambianceagréable les 6 et 7 décembre 2013à l’ENS de la rue d’Ulm et àl’Université Paris 3. Le programmecomportait seize communicationsd’universitaires français, anglais etaméricains abordant sous dif-férents angles le sujet des « réso-nances » dans ces textes.

Les lais moyen-anglais sontde brefs poèmes inspirés des lais deMarie de France, composés au XIVesiècle et se réclamant d’une tradi-tion celtique. Une traduction de cestextes a été publiée aux ÉditionsBrepols par une équipe de

médiévistes français sous la direc-tion de deux membres d’IDEA,Colette Stévanovitch et AnneMathieu. Le présent colloque s’in-scrit dans la continuité de ce travail.

Parmi lessujets abor-dés : la dé-limitation ducorpus, carl’édition pub-liée parA n n eL a s k a y a(présente aucolloque) etnotre traduc-

tion ne retiennent pas les mêmestextes ; la dimension celtique, l’inter-textualité, la musique du vers, lastructure, la thématique, la réutilisa-tion dans des œuvres modernes.

Le colloque s’est terminépar un concert de musique médié-vale. Un choix d’articles issu descommunications présentées au col-loque sera publié dans la revueÉtudes Épistémè. §

“Gode is the lay, swete is thenote”: Résonances dans les laisbretons moyen-anglais / Echoesin the Middle English Breton Lays

LLLL e deuxième séminaire du projetsur l’institutionnalisation des disci-plines a eu lieu le 14 mars 2014.

Les discussions du séminaire ont étébasées sur deux chapitres envoyés avantla séance : l’introduction de Interdisciplin-arity de Joe Moran, et un chapitre sur l’in-stitutionnalisation de l’anthropologie parCarole Reynaud-Paligot.

Le premier chapitre représenteune approche plutôt théorique de l’inter-disciplinarité et de la relation entre disci-pline et institutionnalisation ; le chapitre deC. Reynaud-Paligot représente une étudede cas, avec un travail historique sur leprocessus d’institutionnalisation de l’an-thropologie au dix-neuvième siècle, et sarelation à l’émergence de diverses iden-tités nationales.

La deuxième partie de la discus-sion a consisté en une réflexion sur lesfutures activités du Pôle 1 et du projet surl’institutionnalisation des disciplines. §
