What does Leadership mean?
• It means responsibility and inspiration together. It means walking the talk. It is these three things together.
• A good leader walks the talk, takes responsibility and inspires people around to also walk the talk and take
responsibility.
• When you see an organization or other people doing this, then you also feel inspired to do the same and many
others also feel like doing the same.
1. Teamwork is very essential in any organization. We need to learn team work.
2. The human touch is also important; though not too much of it.
3. We need to keep in mind that emotional and ego-related issues should not enter business. When these issues
creep into any organization’s structure, then they slow hinder the progress of the organization. If a person in an
organization thinks “This person did not invite me”, or “That person does not respect me”, or “This person
takes all the credit”, etc., then that is no good. We need to do away with these kinds of small bickering

4. Effective communication:
• You should put forth your good ideas also. It is not enough to just do good work and say, “I am so good and I do
so much good work”. You also have to project it; communicate your good work in the organization.
• If you just attend to these four points, then everything will keep moving well.
• I tell you, there will be some favourable and some unfavourable times in any organization.
• All that you need to know in such times is to look inside.
• Do not lose faith. Have confidence and move ahead with conviction. That is essential.

• The Engineering Community across India celebrates Engineers Day on 15 September every year as a tribute to the
greatest Indian Engineer Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
• "Role of Engineers in a developing India" is the theme of Engineers Day
• Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, born on 15 September, 1861, in Muddenahalli near Chikkaballapur.
• He went on to become India’s most prolific civil engineer, dam builder, economist, statesman, and can be counted
among the last century’s foremost nation-builders
• He was the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore as well as as the
chief designer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.
• Due to his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India conferred 'Bharat Ratna' on this legend in the
year 1955."
• He was also awarded the British knighthood by King George V, and hence has the honorific "sir".
• His birthday, 15 September is celebrated as the Engineers day.

STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL : A CLOSE LOOK
4
17An initiative from Sri Padhmam Consultancy & Training For free circulation only !
1. Central Tendency - Mean Measures of central tendency show where the data is clustered or grouped together near a
central point.
• The measure of central tendency we will use is the mean (average). The mean is calculated by adding all the observations
and dividing by the number of observations.
2. Dispersion – Range, Standard Deviation Not only is it important to know the central tendency of data, but also to know
the amount of scatter about the central point.
• It is possible that the data may be closely grouped near the central point, it may be uniform, or there may be large
numbers of extreme values. Some description of spread is needed.
• The two most common measures of dispersion are range and standard deviation.
• The range is calculated by subtracting the smallest observation from the largest.
• Statistical Process Control Sigma (σ) is the standard deviation.
STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL
18An initiative from Sri Padhmam Consultancy & Training For free circulation only !
• The advantage of using it is that it is a very efficient estimator of dispersion.
• Unfortunately, it is very difficult to calculate.
• Because statistical calculators are available, calculators will generally be used to obtain the standard deviation.
• The types of control charts for variables used in this manual are X-bar (X) control charts and range (R) control charts.
• Although each chart is separate, they usually appear as one, which is called an X-R chart. A control chart is a statistical
tool used to check the stability of a process over time.
Its basic functions are:
• To describe what control there is.
• To help get control.
• To help judge whether control has been attained.
• To detect change in process performance.
• To estimate the process capability.
• To signal when corrective action is needed.
