Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by

what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

Page 22: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

We often value the gifts You give us over You.

We confess and lament that we have offended Your Almighty name.

Page 23: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

We confess that it was our sin that drove your Son, Jesus, to the

cross.With sorrow we deplore our

wickedness.Guilty and condemned,

we confess: “You bled by our hands.”

O Sacred Head, Now WoundedO Sacred Head, now wounded,

With grief and shame weighed down,Now scornfully surrounded

with thorns, Thine only crown.

Page 26: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

How pale art Thou with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!

Oh how your face bears sorrow which once was bright as morn.

Page 27: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

Men mock and taunt and jeer Thee, Thou noble countenance,

Though mighty worlds shall fear Thee and flee before Thy glance.

Page 28: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

Grim death, with cruel rigor, hath robbed Thee of Thy life;Thus Thou has lost Thy vigor, Thy strength, in this sad strife.

You bled by our hands. You bled.

Page 30: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

My burdens You have carried,My sins You have borne.

For it was my transgressionThat brought this woe and scorn.

Page 31: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

I cast me down before Thee,Wrath my rightful lot,

But You who have sweet mercy – Redeemer on the cross.

MEANING (LESS): “Cigars to Go Around”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15Sermon notes @ http://bible.com/e/1381

Page 48: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15For everything there is a season, and a time for

every matter under heaven:2 a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;a time to break down, and a time to build up;

Page 49: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

Page 50: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 a time to love, and a time to hate;a time for war, and a time for peace.

9 What gain has the worker from his toil?

Page 51: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11 He

has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there

is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live;

Page 52: Sermon notes @ http :// bible/e/1381

13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to

man.14 I perceived that whatever God does endures

forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. 15 That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been;

and God seeks what has been driven away.

Gospel Application:1) What season are we in and are we seeking God in it, whether pleasing or

painful? 2) Do you know that God created each season

to refine us and cause us to look away from ourselves and circumstance and to Him?

3) How will the Gospel cause us to live fully enjoying God for who He is

standing in awe of what He has done and promises to continue to do?

Do this in remembrance of me…

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup

is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of

me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.

Jesus, Savior, Pilot MeJesus, Savior, pilot me over life’s

tempestuous sea.Unknown waves before me roll,

Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.Chart and compass come from Thee;

Savior, pilot me.
