And did my Sovereign die?Would He devote that sacred

For sinners such as I?

Amazing pity, grace unknown,And love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,And shut His glory in,

When Christ, the Great Redeemer, diedFor man, the creature’s, sin

Thus might I hide my blushing faceWhile His dear cross appears,

Dissolve my heart in thankfulnessAnd melt my eyes to tears.

Sent Him to die – I scarce can take it in.That on the cross, my burden gladly

bearing,He bled and died to take away our sin.

Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 “For Better or Worse” Sermon notes @

http://bible.com/e/1F53

Page 42: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com/e/1F53

Ecclesiastes 7:1-14A good name is better than precious ointment,    and the day of death than the day of birth.

2 It is better to go to the house of mourning    than to go to the house of feasting,

for this is the end of all mankind,    and the living will lay it to heart.

3 Sorrow is better than laughter,    for by sadness of face the heart is made glad.

Page 43: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com/e/1F53

4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,

but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.5 It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the

wise    than to hear the song of fools.

6 For as the crackling of thorns under a pot,    so is the laughter of the fools;

    this also is vanity.

Page 44: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com/e/1F53

7 Surely oppression drives the wise into madness,

and a bribe corrupts the heart.8 Better is the end of a thing than its beginning,

and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

9 Be not quick in your spirit to become angry,    for anger lodges in the heart of fools.

Page 45: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com/e/1F53

10 Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?”

For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance,

an advantage to those who see the sun.12 For the protection of wisdom is like the

protection of money,    and the advantage of knowledge is

that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

Page 46: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com/e/1F53

13 Consider the work of God:    who can make straight what he has made

crooked?14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other,so that man may not

find out anything that will be after him.

Gospel Application:

1)Are we living for Jesus or continuing to look back at Good old days?

2)Do we take one day at a time for better or worse?

3) How will the Gospel cause us to live wisely with out time, talent, treasure

knowing that tomorrow is not promised?

Do this in remembrance of me…

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup

is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of

me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.
