Christ, Or Else I DieGracious Lord, incline Thine ear; My request vouchsafe to hear;

Hear my never-ceasing cry; Give me Christ, or else I die.

Page 26: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Wealth and honor I disdain, Earthly comforts, Lord, are vain;

These can never satisfy: Give me Christ, or else I die.

On thy mercy I rely; Give me Christ, or else I die

Romans 12:1-21:I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the

mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be

conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you

may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among

you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober

judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Page 47: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

4 For as in one body we have many members,

and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body

in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to

the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our

faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who

exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,

with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Page 48: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with

brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be

fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints

and seek to show hospitality.

Page 49: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live

in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is

honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with

all.

Page 50: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is

written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is

hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will

heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with

good.

Gospel Application:1)As we grow individually and as community how will we fight to keep the Gospel as central for all we do as one body yet many members?2) How will we as Missional Communities keep our eyes wide open to those around us practicing the rhythms of God’s grace to us?3) How will the Gospel of Jesus Christ cause us to daily pick up our cross and follow Him laying down our preferences for the benefit of all, by removing obstacles so that people might clearly see Jesus?

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper,

saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in

remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the

Lord's death until he comes.

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee.

Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shall be.

Page 63: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Perish every fond ambition, All I’ve sought or hoped or known.

Yet how rich is my condition! God and heaven are still my own.

Page 64: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Let the world despise and leave me; they have left my Savior, too.

Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like them, untrue.

Page 65: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

O while Thou dost smile upon me, God of wisdom, love, and might,

Foes may hate and friends disown me; Show Thy face and all is bright.

Page 66: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Go, then, earthly fame and treasure; Come disaster, scorn and pain

In Thy service, pain is pleasure; With Thy favor, loss is gain

Page 67: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

I have called Thee Abba Father; I have stayed my heart on Thee

Storms may howl, and clouds may gather;

All must work for good to me.

Page 68: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Soul, then know thy full salvation; Rise o’er sin and fear and care

Joy to find in every station; Something still to do or bear.

Page 69: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Think what Spirit dwells within thee; Think what Father’s smiles are thine,

Think that Jesus died to win thee; Child of heaven, canst thou repine.

Page 70: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Haste thee on from grace to glory; Armed by faith, and winged by prayer.

Heaven’s eternal days before thee, God’s own hand shall guide us there.

Page 71: Sermon notes @ http ://bible.com/e/190m

Soon shall close thy earthly mission; Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days,

Hope shall change to glad fruition; Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.
