How Great Thou ArtO Lord my God when I in awesome wonder

Consider all the works Thy hands have made

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunderThy pow’r throughout the universe

displayed.

Page 4: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly

in the trees.When I look down from lofty mountain

grandeurAnd hear the brook and feel the gentle

breeze.

Page 5: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Then sings my soul, “My Savior, God,” to Thee,“How great Thou art! How great Thou art!”

(2x)

Page 6: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,

Sent Him to die – I scarce can take it in.That on the cross, my burden gladly

bearing,He bled and died to take away our sin.

Page 7: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Then sings my soul, “My Savior, God,” to Thee,“How great Thou art! How great Thou art!”

Page 8: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation

And make His home, what joy shall fill my heart!Then I shall bow in humble adoration

And there proclaim, “My God, how great Thou art!”

Page 9: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Then sings my soul, “My Savior, God,” to Thee,“How great Thou art! How great Thou art!”

Murdered SonYou set us up above all the stars

You set us on a high place by where You are

and while we were dead, You made us Your friends

and scattered our debt upon the winds

Page 25: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Glory to One, God’s murdered Sonwho paid for my resurrection.

Page 26: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Once from the dust, and once from the grave,

Daughters and sons from the ashes You’ve raised

and hidden our faults even from Your own face

and scattered our debt upon the waves.

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

How deep the Father’s love for us – How vast beyond all measure – That He should give His only SonTo make a wretch His treasure.

Page 32: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

How great the pain of searing loss – The Father turns His face away –

As wounds which mar the chosen OneBring many sons to glory!

Page 33: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Behold the Man upon a cross – My sin upon His shoulders –

Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,Call out among the scoffers

Page 34: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

It was my sin that held Him thereUntil it was accomplished.

His dying breath has brought me life.I know that it is finished.

Page 35: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

I will not boast in anythingNo gifts, no power, no wisdomBut I will boast in Jesus ChristHis death and resurrection.

Page 36: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Why should I gain from His reward?I cannot give an answer,

But this I know with all my heart:His wounds have paid my ransom.

MEANING (LESS):

“Turkey for One?”Ecclesiastes 4:4-16

Sermon notes @ http://bible.com/e/138I

Page 41: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Ecclesiastes 4:4-16Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work

come from a man's envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

5 The fool folds his hands and eats his own flesh.

6 Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.7Again, I saw vanity under the sun: 8 one

person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes

are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving

myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

Page 42: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one

will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep

warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail

against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Page 43: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

13 Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice. 14 For he went from prison to the

throne, though in his own kingdom he had been born poor. 15 I saw all the living who move about under the sun, along with that youth who was to stand in the king's place. 16 There was no end of all the people, all of whom he led. Yet those who

come later will not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Gospel Application:

1)What is robbing us of rest?

2)When we are alone where do we turn?

3) How will the Gospel cause us to rest in Jesus and remind each other of this as the only Hope for the World?

Do this in remembrance of me…

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup

is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of

me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.

Jesus Paid It AllI hear the Savior say,

“Thy strength indeed is small.Child of weakness, watch and pray,

Find in Me thine all in all.”

Page 54: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Lord, now indeed I findThy pow’r and Thine alone.Can wash my guilty stains,

And melt my heart of stone.

Page 55: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe.Sin had left a crimson stain.He washed it white as snow.

Page 56: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

And when before the throneI’m made in Him, complete;

“Jesus died, my soul to save,”My lips shall still repeat.

Page 57: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe.Sin had left a crimson stain.He washed it white as snow.

In Christ Alone In Christ alone, my hope is found;

He is my light, my strength, my song;This cornerstone, this solid ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm;

Page 61: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease;

My Comforter, my All in all,Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Page 62: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless Babe;

This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save;

Page 63: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

‘Til on that cross, as Jesus died,The wrath of God was satisfied,For ev’ry sin on Him was laid;

Here in the death of Christ I live.

Page 64: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain;Then bursting forth in glorious day,

Up from the grave He rose again;

Page 65: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

For I am His and He is mine,Bought with the precious blood of Christ!

Page 66: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the pow’r of Christ in me; From life’s first cry to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny;

Page 67: Sermon notes @ http:// bible.com /e/138I

No pow’r of hell, no scheme of manCan ever pluck me from His hand;‘Til He returns or calls me home,

Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.
