Sephardic Community Alliance at the NJ Shore Last summer, the Sephardic Rabbinical College and The Allegra Franco Sephardic Women’s Teachers College, created a learning program sponsored by the SCA, for both men and women at the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue of Deal (Hathaway Shul). Thanks to the cooperation and leadership of Rabbi Farhi and Joe Cayre, the program’s goal -- to create a hub for day and night Torah learning for our community – was met and exceeded. Under the direction of Rabbi Harold Sutton, Rosh Kollel of the SRC, and Mrs. Gitta J. Neufeld, Director of the AFSWTC, the summer learning initiative provided all members of our community with high-level learning throughout the summer. B”H this year’s summer program promises to be bigger and better. Classes on a variety of topics, given by master teachers, are scheduled for both daytime and evening sessions. The highly successful young adults’ class on Wednesday nights will once again be offered. A special “bein hamesarim (Three Weeks)” evening series, to be given by Rabbi Joseph Dweck, will culminate in our first Tisha B’av all-day learning program at the JCC, where the entire community can be enriched and properly understand the loss of the Beit Hamikdash. The SCA, working in conjunction with members of the JCC in Deal, has also arranged to have exclusive use of the JCC’s magnificent auditorium for Shabbat Minyanim, under the leadership of Rabbi Harold Sutton. There will be minyan on Friday night, as well as a Shabbat morning first minyan, father-son minyan and high school minyan, as well as a children’s program. Shabbat Minha and Seuda Shelishit (with speakers) will be followed by Arbit. Guest Rabbis will be giving classes Saturday mornings after the first minyan (accompanied by breakfast). There will be afternoon classes for men and women beginning two hours before Minha. The summer minyan program will commence on Friday night June 17th. If you did not attend the Hathaway summer program last year, this is the year to do so! Get involved and get the most out of your summer that you possibly can.
