Pastor’s Corner ~

Centennial Success! I believe our Centennial kick-off Mass celebrated by Bishop McIntyre was a great success as well as the dinner that followed and the picnic the next day. Much gratitude is owed to all those who helped in the Mass celebration (the musicians, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, altar server, ushers). Also, so much is owed to those who helped create the wonderful dinner that followed. Chef Brian Leach and a host of helpers from the Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary and many young people helped make it a spectacular evening. I know that Bishop McIntyre had seconds and left with a big smile on his face. And on Sunday many of the same people made the picnic a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I really do want to point out how tremendous our young people were at helping out in so many ways. I think many of us worry about the future of our country and our church, but I can tell you that I am proud to entrust our future to the young people of our parish. After all, they are the ones who will be minding me someday in a nursing home – hopefully they will remember to wipe the dribble off of my chin!

As we begin the celebration of our centennial year, we also greatly anticipate the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia and the visit of His Holiness, Pope Francis. Beginning this weekend we join other parishes throughout the Archdiocese in praying the official prayer for the World Meeting of Families before each weekend Mass. We pray for the success of each and every family, the family that is our parish, the family that is our Archdiocese, and the family that is the universal Church, as well as the family of humanity. Copies are provided in the missals, but also below if you would like to cut it out and pray this prayer with your own family.

World Meeting of Families Prayer

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,

you have made us your sons and daughters

in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families

in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit,

guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer

and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us.

Peace,

Fr. Lange

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION

Sacred Heart offers a Parish Religious Education Program of Family Faith Formation for families who have children in Grades 1-6. The Program, which is a partnership between parents and parish, offers classes for parents and children two or three times per month on Sunday mornings following the 9 a.m. Mass or Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm. Our Program is a combination of Mass, lessons at home, and formal classroom catechesis; it follows the guidelines from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and uses age-appropriate Catholic materials. Registration with discounted fees will continue through June 15. If your family will be enrolled in PREP for the first time this year, please contact the Faith Formation Office at 610-932-5040 x4 or email [email protected] to begin the registration process.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have older children who have not had formal faith formation, please contact us – it is never too late to lead your family into a closer relationship with Our Lord. We look forward to sharing your family’s journey of faith.

Forty Hours Devotion is scheduled for Friday, June 12th beginning at 3 p.m. and going through to Sunday, June 14th, 2015, concluding at 7 a.m.

All are welcome to attend for any length of time.

Centennial Committee “Thank You!”

The Centennial Committee would like to extend an enormous “Thank You,” to all who helped make this a delightful opening weekend celebration for our centennial year! We are humbled by the enthusiastic support from all our ministries, parishioners and the surrounding community. The turnout to both events was both heartwarming and gratifying knowing that we really are “many families and one heart.”

We look forward to continuing our celebration in the upcoming fall with socials and parish community building. Help us make this a year to remember and support our efforts to keeping Sacred Heart Parish vibrant for many years to come. “Ad Multos Annos,” to many more years!

Sacred Heart Parish is organizing buses for the Papal visit in Philadelphia! There will be two buses that will pick up parishioners from Sacred Heart parking lot and take to the Papal Mass on Sunday, September 27th. The cost of the buses will be $25 per adult and $15 per child. Water and pretzels

will be provided by Sacred Heart Parish. Lunches will not be provided. Time of departure from Sacred Heart Parish has not yet been determined; however, we expect a mid-morning departure. To hold your spot on the bus a payment to Sacred Heart is required. Payments can be made to either desk in the Narthex after Mass or at the Parish Office. Maximum occupancy for the trip will be approximately 95 people.

Please contact Matt Hillegass for more information at [email protected].

We are pleased to announce that registration to volunteer for The World Meeting of Families—Philadelphia 2015 is now open!

Go to the Volunteer Page of the World Meeting of Families website, to register. To volunteer, one must complete a two-step process that includes completing an online user registration form and a background check request. Once these two steps are completed, and you’ve passed the background check (please allow 48 hours), you will receive an email with a link to sign up for events. This link will take you to the Volunteer Hub where you will choose the days and time slots for which you would like to volunteer.

Questions regarding registration for volunteers can be sent to [email protected] or call staff at 855.963.2015.

In less than six months, the City of Philadelphia will welcome Pope Francis and visitors from around the globe for the first World Meeting of Families held in the United States. We are grateful that you want to be part of this historic event!

Church Kitchen Odds & Ends

Over the past several years plates and

serving containers have accumulated in

the Church kitchen after social events

that have taken place. The personal

items have been gathered and placed on

a serving cart in the church hall to be

reclaimed by their rightful owners. Any

items that remain unclaimed after a

month or the weekend of July 11th-12th,

will be donated to the Ladies Auxiliary

for their “Granny’s Attic” at the Craft

Fair. Thank you!
