Stewardship Corner ~

St. John the Baptist understands his place, his rank in relation to the Lord. When he says “I am not worthy to untie his sandal strap,” we must appreciate that untying the master’s sandals was the task of the lowest ranking servant in the household. John the Baptist is indicating that he is even lower than that. In a sense we all are. One of the key aspects of stewardship is humility. This is a time in the church year when each of us must seek and practice humility. St. John the Baptist provided a cleansing Baptism; however, Jesus baptizes us with the Holy Spirit. We need to be prepared for that.

St. Paul exhorts the Thessalonians, “Do not quench the Spirit.” Advent and Christmas are times for a joyful spirit. In fact,

we are called to revel in it. This is not a time to have reservations; it is not a time to be indifferent; it is not a time to refute

our faith; and it is so easy to become preoccupied with all of the things which are occurring to divert us from the birth of

Christ. In his final message to the Thessalonians in this reading Paul calls all to “be faithful” but also reminds us that this

faith is based upon our acceptance of the presence and the power of God. He consistently warns us that one of the evils

we must avoid is total self reliance. For Paul that is a greater threat than Satan himself. Let us all look to St. John the

Baptist and live by his example of humility in the Spirit this season.

“Come Let Us Adore Him”

During the busy Advent Season, if you are tired and overwhelmed by your many duties and

responsibilities; if you are trying to find meaning in life, then come spend some quiet time with

our precious Lord Jesus Christ. Abandon yourself to Jesus in this "Sacrament of Love" and He will

refresh you! The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will come away feeling renewed

and refreshed. There you can speak with Him about anything. You can offer Him your petitions,

concerns, troubles, joys, gratitude and all your needs. He is always there waiting for you in the silence.

Eucharistic Adoration is open to all and is held on Tuesday from 8 am to 7 pm.

If you are interested in becoming an adorer or would like to have more information about Eucharistic Adoration at Sacred

Heart Church, you may contact Joann Di Liberto at 610 932 8962.

There’s trouble in Bethlehem! Aaron, a shepherd at Shem’s Sheep Shop is sleeping on the job and the

sheep are disappearing rapidly. The president of Wee R Sheep, Inc. is coming for his annual

inspection and if Aaron can’t stay awake and shape up, he’s going to have to “sheep” out! Nothing

short of a miracle can change things for this drowsy shepherd…. and word has it from a band of

Angels that one has just happened in a small stable down the street.

Sacred Heart’s Centennial Celebration

Plans are underway to celebrate Sacred Heart’s Centennial Celebration. Consider lending your time and talents to the Centennial Committee as plans are in the making to kick off a year long celebration starting on Saturday evening, June 6th,

2015, and continuing thru out the year until the closing in June 2016. Sacred Heart’s official anniversary is June 15, 2015.

Consider being “part of the heart,” as our committee seeks volunteers that are willing to lend their time and talent and treasures. We need a wide spectrum of expertise to make this a celebration to remember.

Sacred Heart’s Collectable Christmas Ornament Sacred Heart’s Centennial Committee will be selling a collectable 2014 Christmas ornament that highlights the original Sacred Heart Church on Broad Street in Oxford. The ornament depicts the Sacred Heart of old. There is a limited number of the keepsake ornaments offered. The cost of the glass Christmas ball is $12 each and will be available after Mass by a Centennial Committee member. We will also be taking pre-orders on a tapestry that will depict the old Sacred Heart Church, the current Sacred Heart Church and the school. Please consider joining the Centennial Committee and see how you can be a part in making this celebration a year to remember.
