Remembering the Life of

Let us not become weary in doing good,

for at the proper time we will reap a harvest

if we do not give up. GALATIANS 6:9

Murray Goodwin, 87, of Warren, MN, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 14, 2020 at North Valley Health Center in Warren.

Murray John was born on July 9, 1932, in Angus, MN, the son of George and Cora (Johnson) Goodwin. He attended country school until the 8th grade before enrolling at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. He graduated in 1950 and returned to work on the family farm.

On August 27, 1954, Murray was united in marriage to Betty Van Baalen. What started as a blind date blossomed into the “love of his life,” a beautiful marriage, and a son with whom he could share his love of the land. In 1983, Murray and Betty moved off the farm and into Warren. In 1985 he received the Master Farmer Award.

He was a lifelong member of Angus-Tabor Presbyterian Church, served on the board of the Marshall County Co-op for 22 years, and also served on the boards of both the local Bremer Bank (8 years) and the Polk County FSA (12 years). He and Betty spent many happy winters together in Arizona, and every summer weekend at “Paradise” on Maple Lake.

Murray's two great loves in this world were his family and his farm; his passion for the latter lasting long, long after his retirement.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends; his kind nature will not be forgotten.

Murray is survived by his wife of 65 years, the Love of his Life, Betty Goodwin; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Marie of Angus; three grandsons, Jared of Minneapolis, MN, Cole (Brooke), and Lucas (Kaia) both of East Grand Forks, MN; three great-grandchildren, Maclin, Axel, and Addilyn; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, John (Sally) VanBaalen, Laguna Niguel, CA, and Julius (Eunice) VanBaalen, Hibbing, MN; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Bergman of East Grand Forks, Ada (Will) Omang of West Fargo, ND, and Marion (Ed) Anderson of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joy (John) Lundon and Dennis Goodwin; and siblings-in-law, Gertrude (Gordon) Conklin, Richard Omang, and Paul Bergman.
