One of the highlights was a tour of the King Tut traveling exhibit in Philadelphia. Another highlight that month was my formal acceptance to the Diocese of Austin as a seminarian. The Lord provided an ample answer to my mid-life crises: go to seminary and become a priest! Now, ten years later, Dad and Mom—Steve and Doris Nolt—decided to fly to Texas to celebrate 50 with me. I hope you have a chance to meet them and encounter the love they have for the Lord, something they inculcated in our family life growing up. And together with them I am able to recount God's faithfulness over the years with gratitude. The Sunday Gospels of Lent provide beautiful reflections on key moments in the Lord's and his disciples' time together: our Lord's Temptation in the Desert; the Transfiguration; the Woman at the Well (and her transformation into an evangelizing disciple); giving sight to the blind, and raising Lazarus—his dear friend—from the dead. Reflecting on these moments ought to help us reflect on the milestones of our own faith. Where have I encountered the Lord in my story? Has his call been marked by divergent paths that led me into new seasons of grace? Is God faithful to me, to his people through our story, the story of the Church in Austin, of our parish family at Saint Mary Cathedral? Ten years ago, as I approached my 40th birthday on March 24, 2007, I decided to fly to Pennsylvania to celebrate that rite of passage with my parents. One of the highlights was a tour of the King Tut traveling exhibit in Philadelphia. Another highlight that month was my formal acceptance to the Diocese of Austin as a seminarian.
