JUNE 2014

AWARDS LUNCHEON RECAPby Julia Bryant

Having the opportunity to recognize outstanding individuals in our

community is always the highlight of the year at our annual Awards

Luncheon and Recognition & Induction of Board Members. Royse

City is unique in that its citizens and employers have such a strong

connection to the area. That is why it is so difficult to choose only

one person to be presented each award every year.

Bobby Montgomery, Director of Marketing at Lake Pointe Medical

Center, once again did an outstanding job as our Emcee for the lunch-

eon held at Occasions at Stone River with catering by Chef Zach.

State Senator Bob Deuell also provided a brief update on the

state’s affairs, including where it stands regarding the budget. He

said that as the next session begins in January that they will need

to address the issues of a growing state and make sure that busi-

nesses continue to come to Texas. Remember to attend our June

luncheon to hear more from our Senator!

After all the awards and formalities took place, we

were happy to have as our Guest Speaker, Mike

Castellucci from Good Morning Texas. Mike shared

amusing and thoughtful stories of people he has

come in contact with throughout his career. We are really glad he

choose to spend the afternoon with us.

scholarshipWINNERS

It is our privilege each year to help support the future of Royse

City by awarding (2) $1000 scholarships to graduating Royse City

High School Seniors. The criteria we use to make our selection

includes financial need, academic performance, extracurricular

activities and/or community service or employment, as well as

confirmed acceptance to a university.

Mayor Jerrell Baley present-

ed the first Ouida Baley

Memorial Scholarship to

this year’s recipient, Sayre

Trette, at the annual Awards

Presentation Ceremony at

Royse City High School on

May 20. The Baley family

requested that the student

be service oriented. We feel

this recipient definitely

meets that criteria. She has

been accepted to Texas Christian University as well as Centre

College and plans to pursue a degree in Pre-Chemistry.

Congratulations Sayre Trette!

We were also honored to pres-

ent our Chamber Scholarship

to Caleb Hessert. He has been

accepted to Oklahoma State

and Baylor Universities, and

Texas A&M Commerce and

plans to pursue a degree in

Music Education.

Congratulations to both of

these outstanding students!

The Ouida Baley Scholarship will be presented every year to a

graduating senior who personifies the essence of what Mrs. Baley

lived each day - service to others. You may make a donation to the

memorial fund at any time at American National Bank of Texas or

through our website at http://www.roysecitychamber.com/royse-

We are excited to announce that Verandah will be partnering with

us this year to bring you our 25th FunFest on October 18th!

This is going to truly be the BIGGEST, the most INTERACTIVE, the

MOST FUN Fest yet! Not only are we bringing in more activities for

the children, but we will be revisiting our history, raising money for

other non-profits, letting local vendors sell their wares, and are in

the planning stages of an area that will draw in our over 21 crowd!

Go to our website for more information on being a vendor.

Many people from the area participated in Carry The Load this year.

Carry The Load programs provide an interactive way for Americans to

remember, honor and celebrate Memorial Day in dedication to those

who sacrifice for us daily. Funds raised during Memorial May programs

allow Carry The Load to grow its vision and

execute its mission, as well as provide existing

nonprofit partners with valuable visibility,

resources, and meaningful connections. This is

Officer and Firefighter, Danny Mims, Carrying

the load for Tracey Larramore West.

SPLASH PARK UPDATE: As

of now, the Royse City Splash

Park at Hwy. 66 and Erby

Campbell Blvd will be open on

Memorial Day and remain

open through Labor Day.

There is a Ribbon Cutting/After Hours/Grand Opening at Southern

Roots Studio Salon at 109 W. Main Street on June 12 from 5-8 pm.

Owner Morgan Daws

says there will be food,

drinks, specials and

giveaways. Ribbon

cutting is at 5:30 so be

sure to be there!

1 pm & 6 pm Dr. Flake-n-stein's Magic Laboratory Dr. Flake-n-stein's Magic Laboratory combines magic, robot puppets and science experiments. This highly interactive show lets children participate with magic tricks, and they will also help with real science experiments. These experiments are all safe to do at home. So, children will be encouraged to try the experiments well after the show is over.

June 10th

June 24th

6pm Zooniversity Professional wildlife educators will introduce you to our amazing animal ambassa-dors — all non-releasable wildlife or displaced exotic “pets,” who now have a per-manent home with Zooniversity. Zooniversity's library programs are designed for reading-age children, ages 5 years and older. Our animals are easily startled by the noises and movements of pre-school audiences -- and the safety of your patrons is our #1 priority. We require children younger than 5 years to sit with an adult. Toddlers and infants are to be seated near the rear of the audience and will be expected to quickly exit should they become noisy or active.

Performances will be held in the Mellody Room at City Hall.
