Quick News February 21 2013
Superintendentrsquos Message -by John P Kronour PhD
As the Superintendent of the Tipp City Exempted Village Schools my role is to work with
elected municipal officials The elected and hired leaders in Tipp City and Monroe Township
have complex and challenging jobs We all face the same diminishing budgets increasing costs
and difficult financial decisions We are all working together to serve our public ndash we educate
children we protect citizens we fix roads we provide emergency services and we provide for
economic development We are all public servants
My role is to be the educational leader ndash and part of that role is the safety of our students Right
now there is a heightened sensitivity in our country after the tragedy at Sandy Hook And I want to assure you that
district administrators are continuing to work with our city officials to keep our schools and community safe
In light of the recent events that have taken place at Tipp City Schools I want to assure our citizens that Tipp City
School Administrators and office staff have worked together to put together a protocol as what to do in each
emergency situation Every year Tipp City Police have met with school administrators and looked at our plan to
make sure it is updated and every possible scenario is worked out There have been times when it has appeared
that there is not a plan but please be assured the District is working closely with the Tipp City Police to
communicate as effectively as possible without inducing panic
Tipp City is a great place to live to raise a family and to receive an education The many dedicated and
committed leaders I work with have mutual respect and a shared desire to serve our community I am confident
we will continue to work together listen to the concerns of our citizens and make Tipp City the home we want
for our families
Another task for the District is to maintain our EXCELLENT rating we have received an EXCELLENT Rating
for the 7th year in a row and nine years out of eleven And if excellence is a habit Tipp City Schools is doing a
good job developing this habit in our children The fact is every day our school district demonstrates excellence
all one has to do is visit a classroom and watch our dedicated teachers mold the next generation of American
leaders Many examples of excellence arenrsquot public excellence happens in our rehearsals or at a practice in a
caring comment by a teacher or in a selfless act of kindness
Tipp City has exceptionally talented students and uniquely dedicated teachers staff members and administrators
We are a progressive innovative district that is continually seeking opportunities to be better We have a vision
that the Tipp City Exempted Village Schools is to build a community of lifelong learners committed to
scholarship leadership citizenship and service The school district will provide independent and collaborative
educational experiences to develop and promote each students intellectual physical social and emotional growth
Our goal our vision is continued excellence and we embrace that journey and are committed to going wherever
the road takes us to continue providing the education our students deserve

The Troy Area Career Day will provide an opportunity for local high school students to get assistance in short and
long term career planning from Troy area employers and representatives from area colleges and universities
At Career Day
Employers will provide information on summer jobs internships and career opportunities Students will
network with the human resource managers of some of our leading employers
Students can attend informational sessions on topics such as
o job search tools
o interviewing
o other important topics related to career planning
Representatives from the leading eight colleges and universities in the Region and the Hobart Institute of
Welding Technology are invited to participate This will be an excellent opportunity for high school
juniors and undecided seniors to learn more about options in higher education
Career Day will have a special focus on manufacturing due to the immediate and long-term employment needs of
our employers These jobs are critically important to the area economy We hope to tour local manufacturing
facilities in the fall similar to the Manufacturing Day event held regionally last October
We welcome all school districts in Miami County to participate Currently the Troy School District estimates
having 500 students participate The Upper Valley Career Center will also be participating
Students selected to attend the event should have a strong interest in career exploration and planning If the
student already plans to attend college we would like the opportunity to inform them about employment
opportunities with world-class companies in the Troy area so that they will consider returning to the area after
college
While at the event each student will complete an assignment and turn in the completed paper before they leave
They will need to
visit and speak with a defined number of employers
attend career presentations
demonstrate that they have gained some understanding of our local economy
These assignments will be collected by our volunteers and successful completion will enter the studentrsquos name
into a drawing to be held during our Job Fair the following day
The Troy Ohio Job Fair will be held the following day Saturday May 11th
from 1000 to 300 at Hobart
Arena Students will be encouraged to visit this event with their family
