Gund G
allery advances the role of visual art as a critical centerpiece of K

championing the best art and artists of the 20th-and 21st-centuries via an
active exhibitions schedule, expanding permanent collection, and form
al and inform

Public Art at K
enyon
College
Shortly after the museum
opened, the Gund G
allery Collection launched w
ith inaugural gifts from
alumni donors and board m
embers. B
ookending this new
collection of 20th- and 21st-century art were gifts of three Lew
is Hine
photographs from the first decade of the 20th century and tw
o recent video w
orks by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, w
hich were joined by the gift of
a 1986 wall sculpture by Louise N
evelson. In 2014, eighty additional works of
contemporary art w
ere donated by Ann and G
raham G
und ’63, further securing this collection’s im
portant focus and trajectory. The Kenyon C
ollege C
ollection includes a range of pre-20th-century art, works related to the
College’s history and alum
ni, ethnographic objects, and material culture and is
managed and cared for by the G
und Gallery.
Kenyon’s beautiful cam
pus provides the perfect backdrop for a growing roster
of important and historically m
eaningful works of art from
the Gund G
allery C
ollection and the Kenyon C
ollege Collection. Public art installations are
approved and sited by the Public Art C
omm
ittee, a group of dedicated faculty m
embers, C
ollege administrators, staff m
embers, students, com
munity
representatives, and gallery personnel. Publicly displayed works of art now
include special Q
R-code labeling to provide an array of interpretive and historical inform
ation researched and written by G
und Associates, the
museum
’s dynamic interns.
