Introduction

What is simulation ?• refers to a computerized version of the model which is

run over time to study the implications of the defined interactions.

• indeed a method to represent complex relation in an easier way and in lesser time

• just need a software to run it• Using simulation in teaching and learning process is

really an effective method to motivate students and to gain their attention towards learning.

STELLA software• STELLA has been used in the experiment Simple

Nitrogen Cycle. an object-oriented graphical modeling

environment. allows users to construct models that

stimulate our biological systems aims : to enhance the learning process.

STELLA allows students to creatively change the systems by change the variables.

Page 4: Presentation Stella

Basic tools in the STELLA environment for model diagram developments :

Stocks : represent system components that can accumulate material over time stocks can reflect the system state or condition as it changes over time living biomass, nitrogen in biomass, nitrogen in organic matter, nitrogen in humus and available nitrogen

Flows : represent components whose values are measured as rates nitrogen to biomass ratio and xferring.

Converters : represent constants, variables functions, or time series converters for this model are humification fraction, mineralization fraction, nitrogen per unit biomass and fixation productivity. A slight change of this variables, it will affects other things.

Connectors :indicate the cause/effect relationship between diagram components

Model of Simple Nitrogen Cycle

Page 6: Presentation Stella

• manipulated variables : humification fraction, mineralization fraction, nitrogen per unit biomass and fixation productivity.

• Responding variables: nitrogen in biomass, nitrogen in organic matter, nitrogen in humus and available nitrogen

Page 7: Presentation Stella

results before the variable is changed

• graph show straight line of nitrogen in humus because there is no increase of humification fraction. • also have straight line for available nitrogen because there is no increase mineralizing fraction• There have slightly increase of nitrogen in organic matter then it be straight line.•Based on this graph and model, students can predict how the results based on the changes of manipulated variable.

Page 8: Presentation Stella

change humification fraction to 0.5300

Page 9: Presentation Stella

change the another variable that is mineralization fraction to 0.5300

Page 10: Presentation Stella

changed nitrogen per unit biomass to 0.5300

Page 11: Presentation Stella

changed the value to 0.00007 in fixation productivity

CONCLUSION- This simulation is deep learning and this is better than surface learning that only

requires memorizing.- From this graph we can know how the pattern.- Can attract students with their model and make students curious how the experiment

progress and how come the result will affected if we change the parameters.- All this question will increase students motivation.- They will explore the model.- Teachers should give time to students learned this as in Educational Philosophy, there

have 5 domains psychomotor objective that every students should achieve

1) Copy. Teachers will show the model and how it progress. Then, student will copy the step.

2) Manipulation. Students will be able to understand the model and not only memorizing the changes of result.

3) Precession. Students will able to run the experiment. They can start to predict the outcome of the result.

Page 13: Presentation Stella

4) Articulation- Students will able to do the another model that not have shown by teachers. Means they already can predict what the result will be if they change the result.

5) Naturalization- This last domain that is student will able to apply what they have learned. They already started to have high level thinking. They start to think to create something that will useful to human being.- So, from this simulation we can have many talented students that will create a

fantastic creature for our country development. - Then, our next generation become highly thinking generation.- To conclude, that is so important to future teachers to learn how to handle this

simulation.- Our responsible to make sure one day our country have quality students.
