Preface

Once again, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia will become the host of the largest annual event of Badan Kerja Sama Teknik Mesin

(BKSTM). This event is the 13th Annual National Seminar on Mechanical Engineering (SNTTM XIII). SNTTM has evolved into a series of scientific seminars and also providing the conference for all of the head of department of Mechanical Engineering Institu-tion in Indonesia (BKSTM). SNTTM also prepares a place for sharpening the mind of Indonesian engineering students through the Annual National Competition on Me-chanical Design.

SNTTM XIII will be held in The Library Building of Universitas Indonesia at October 14 – 16, 2014. In this SNTTM, the online process of submission, reviewing, and acceptances of papers will be introduced. In behalf on increasing the quality of papers, we encourage to all participant of SNTTM XII to give their best scientific thought and effort. Some of the acceptance paper will be published in journals with international accreditation. All of these attempts are intended to increase the prestige of SNTTM and Mechanical Engineering establishments in Indonesia

We, as the committee of SNTTM XIII, also encourages industrial party to actively joins in this event as a means to harmonizing the development of mechanical engineering establishment in Industry and academic institution. As the essence meaning of the development of Industries and Academics is for the prosperity of the community, the key words in this SNTTM announced to be “The Contribution to Society”. Workshop themed “Microproducts and Microsystem” will also be held and nurtured by one of our collaborative researcher. We hope that this event can become an example of how research products integrated with industries and give significance contribution to the society.

Until these day, SNTTM has been held for 12 years with aproximately 150 - 400 pa-pers each year (Figure 1). As the common specialization of mechanical engineering, SNTTM clasified into general topics as Energy Conversion, Manufacture/Production process, Design/Applied Mechanics, Material, and Mechanical Engineering Educa-tion. Figure 2 shown the average distribution of these topics for the last 5 years.

Badan Kerja Sama Teknik Mesin Indonesia (BKSTM) is an organi-zation founded at the conference of The Head of Department/

Major/Study Program of Mechanical Engineering of Indonesia high-er education institutes at Mechanical Engineering of ITS, May 29th, 2002. The member of BKSTM are Higher Education Institutions ad-ministered Mechanical Engineering education.The objective of BKSTM are as follow :(1) Create a condition which is conducive for enhancing the cooperation between Mechanical Engineering Higher Education Institutions in implementing Tri Dharma of Higher Education Institution.(2) enhancing the interaction between the member of BKSTM with other institution, (3) Intensify member’s resources to respond challange and competition.The member of BKSTM comprises of Mechanical Engineering Department/Study Program Studi/Major of the following institution:

The 4th Annual National Competition on Mechanical Design

BKSTM has organizes The Annual National Competition on Mechanical Design since 2001. Participants of the competition which are undergraduate students of mechanical engineering department from various regions in Indonesia keep on increasing. Therefore, this event will become a perfect place for undergraduate students of mechanical engineering to hone their skills and knowledge as mechanical engineer.

The 4th Annual National Competition on Mechanical Design will be themed “Medical devices for the physically disabled”. As SNTTM XIII theme which is “The Contribution to Society”, the outcome of this competition will also directly communicate with medical needs of society. Hence, we encourages students to call up all of theirs creativity and idea suitable with the above theme.
