ANISHINABEK EDUCATION SYSTEM Information on the Anishinabek Education System

has been posted in the newsletter since July. At this time,

the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation

will not be participating in the Ratification Process

for the Anishinabek Education System.

In order to participate in the Ratification Process each

First Nation must have a First Nation Constitution in

place. Given the time frame, Chief and Council wants to

ensure we have the appropriate time to consult with the

membership on a First Nation Constitution. We are not

the only First Nation that will not be participating in the

Ratification Process. When we are ready with the First

Nation Constitution, we can go forward with Ratification

Process for the Anishinabek Education System. Any

First Nation within the Union of Ontario Indians may

join at any time.

NOVEMBER IS DIABETES MONTH

Diabetes is a serious, progressive health condition that often doesn’t make you feel sick for a long time. This means damage can start before you even know you have diabetes. Indigenous people are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. You might also be at risk of diabetes if:

Your Mother, Father or Siblings have or had diabetes; You or your Mother had Gestational diabetes (during

pregnancy); You have heart problems and high blood pressure; You carry extra weight around your middle; You do not get regular exercise;

Because November is Diabetes month, a health care team will be checking people of the community for risk of diabetes. We will help you fill out a questionnaire and may check your waist size, blood pressure and blood sugar to see if you are at higher risk of developing diabetes. We will be making home visits on November 23, 2016 from 10:00 – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Please call Natasha at 613-625–2259 to book a time. The sooner you know about it, the quicker you can take charge and live a healthier life!
