SIXTIES SCOOP SURVIVORS

Sixties Scoop survivors won a major victory after eight years and eight attempts by two different governments to have the case thrown out. On February 14, 2017, Ontario Superior Court Justice Belobaba ruled that the federal government failed in its common law duty of care to prevent on-reserve Indians in Ontario who had been placed in the care of non-Aboriginal foster and adoptive parents from losing their cultural identity.

To register with the Ontario Sixties Scoop Class Action: Negotiations are now occurring. Make sure you sign up whether you are a Status or non-Status Indian, lived or did not live on a reserve, or were removed before 1965.

All that matters is that you were removed in Ontario. It does not matter that you were placed outside Ontario.

Click on the words “Registration as a Class Member” at the top of the website page at www.sixtiessccoopclaim.com and send in the registration form (by web or by mail). Printed forms are available at the front desk of the administration office. Contact the Ontario Sixties Scoop Class Action team:

DANGERS OF SUGARY DRINKS

It is estimated that sugary drink consumption in Canada will be responsible for:

More that 1 million cases of overweight and more than 3 million cases of obesity

Almost 1 million cases of type 2 diabetes

Almost 300,000 Canadians with ischemic heart disease

More than 100,000 cases of cancer

Almost 40,000 strokes

Almost 2.2 million disability-adjusted life years.

Canadians are consuming high amounts of sugary drinks and if this continues, the consequences to our health and the healthcare system will be devastating. Most troubling, young people drink the largest amount of sugary beverages, new research commissioned by leading health organizations.
