Presentation on
BULLYING and VICTIMIZATION
The Laurentian Valley Community Policing Committee
together with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment are pleased to make the public aware that Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt, University of Ottawa, Canadian Research Chair in Children’s Mental Health & Violence Prevention, will be speaking at Rockwood Public School, 11588 Round Lake Road,
Pembroke, Ontario, on Tuesday, April 30th. The main topic
will be bullying and victimization Dr. Vaillancourt will be
making two presentations on Apr 30, 2013 the first one being for students and teachers of Rockwood Public School. All students from grades 4 to 8 will be included. The evening session at 7:00 pm will be for parents and the public at large. Both sessions will allow some time for questions after the presentation.
Canada Research Chairs – Chairholders web site states “Dr Vaillancourt’s research suggests that bullying is not unique to any school or any country. Studies of school children around the world have found that 12 to 15 percent are involved in bullying: about 9 percent as victims, the rest as bullies. She continues stating that while stats like these are depressing, their uniformity also suggests there may be equally uniform
causes and solutions to the problems”.
Keith Watt, Chair of the Laurentian Valley Community Polic-ing Committee encourages all parents and general public to attend this informative presentation regarding the impact of bullying/victimization. Parents/teachers will learn practical strategies on how to support their bullied child or student if
they are being bullied, engaged in bullying or are bystanders.
To obtain more information regarding Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt, her credentials, research studies and impressive career,
please google her name.
Notice to all Community Members We have concluded a waste audit and study of the landfill site which provided for a number of recommendations for consideration. This work included public consultation and participation with members of the community for the past three months. Based on its findings we wish to begin its implementation with the following changes. Effective Wednesday May 15, 2013 changes will be made to the garbage collection and recycling program as follows: These changes mean curbside garbage pick-up will now be on Wednesday’s and no longer on Thursday’s(garbage must be placed at the curbside by 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays) Thursdays will now be the new designated day for fibre (paper, cardboard) recycling curbside collection. (all fibre must be placed at the curbside by 8:30 a.m. Thursday)
An attendant/monitor will be on site from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Resident band members will be requested to produce identification if the attendant is unable to confirm residency. All other users will be refused
access to the landfill site. Further changes will be made in the near future.

HINTS and TIPS
To restore finished wood furniture, steep two tea bags in hot water for 10 minutes. Let cool, then dampen a clean soft cloth with tea and wipe over wood furniture. It will bring out the woods natural color and shine. If the tip of your shoe lace becomes frayed snip off the frayed end. Paint or dip the end of the shoe lace into clear nail polish and let
it dry. Good as new.
If your new shoes are to tight put the nozzle of your blow dryer into shoe and turn on low. When shoe gets warm, stuff with paper or socks to stretch it.
Spray wd40 on a cloth and wipe over leather shoes or leather boots , then buff with a soft clean cloth to shine and make them
waterproof. To make nail polish stay on nails longer first coat fingernails with white vinegar using a cotton ball. Let dry then apply nail polish. To quickly dry nail polish dip fingers into a bowl of cold water. Then shake access water from hands and allow hands to air dry. A little olive oil and enough sugar to make a paste make a nice facial scrub. Gently massage onto face avoiding eye area then rinse
with warm water. This can also be used on hands.
Witch Hazel is a great facial cleanser and toner.
