PexFlex DH
Overview
PexFlex DH (District Heating) pipes form a complete flexible pipe system for district heating distri-
bution networks and minor house entries.
The long flexible pipes make PexFlex very usable for:
- branch pipes without joints
- passage of vegetation and other obstacles
- hilly areas
- tunnelling and thrust-bore methods
Continuous operating temperature: 85°C
Max. temperature: 95°C
Operating pressure: ø 16, 22 and 28 mm: 10 bar
ø 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 75, 90, 110 mm: 6 bar
Applicable together with installation methods I-III, but with the above-mentioned temperature and
pressure limitations.
PexFlex DH pipes comply with prEN 15632-2
Description
Materials PEX pipe: The service pipe is made of PEXb (silan cross-linked) with external EVOH oxygen
barrier, preventing oxygen entrance into the district heating water.
The pipe cross-links on operationalization and complies with the requirements in
EN/ISO 15875.
Insulation: Polyurethan foam
Blowing agent: Cyclopentan
Certified thermal conductivity l50
= 0.022 W/mK
Diffusion barrier Between the casing and the foam a multilayer polymer diffusion barrier is
embedded, retaining the diffusion of insulation gases and thus reducing ageing

PexFlex DH
Straight joints
There are 3 different kinds of straight joints in connection with PexFlex DH pipes:
- straight joint, same dimension
- reduction- connection to straight preinsulated pipes
Straight joints PexFlex DH service pipes are connected by
means of press couplings, ensuring a perma-
nent tightness at all temperature variations.
Reduction

Reduction between two PexFlex DH service
pipes is carried out by means of reduction
press couplings.

Straight joints
Casing joints The simplest way to carry out joint couplings
in connection with straight joints, reductions
and transitions is to use the FXJoint with aflexible core of the insulation shells, adjusting
to the press couplings.

Branches
Branch types There are 2 fundamentally different ways to connect to main pipes:
- T-connection with press couplings when branching from PEX main pipe.
To be used with the flexible branch joint programme. See section 3.5 ”Casing joints for
FlexPipes”
- Preinsulated branches with steel service pipes.
Can be welded onto steel main pipes or be equipped with weld couplings to be installed
onto PEX main pipes.

PexFlex DH,
general
3 types of preinsulated branches with steel service pipes are available for the PexFlex DH
system:
- Straight branch
- 45° perpendicular branch
- 90° parallel branch
All branches are produced in accordance with EN 448.
They are delivered with 150 mm free pipe ends ready for weld couplings to be welded on.
(However, 45° branches are delivered with weld couplings already welded on).

Hot tapping valve, component No. 4280.
Hot tapping tools, product No. 8-49915.
On systems in operation branches with
PexFlex can be installed by means of hot
tapping. The small dimensions of the hot tapping val-
ves mean that they can be fitted into most
standard branch joints.
Max. operating pressure in connection with
hot tapping:
- ø 22 and 28 mm PexFlex: 10 bar
- ø 32 and 40 mm PexFlex: 6 bar
The hot tapping valve is adjusted to the
FlexPipe systems.
1. Hot tapping valve
2. Pipe end for direct welding of e.g. 90°
weld coupling
3. Conic pipe plug with hexagon socket
4. Operating screw with slot, acting as a
position indicator
5. 90° weld coupling
(Only in connection with 90° steel joint
branch)
