The concept

Carrier pipe to client specification or delivered by the client!

Carrier pipe• Carbon steel• Stainless steel• Plastic• Copper etc.

Insulation• Polyurethane foam (PUR)

Jacket pipe• High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)• Spiro jacket (galvanized, aluzinc, SS etc.)

Page 13: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Carrier pipe

• Supplied standard lengths of 6 or 12 m– or according to client specification

• Standard steel pipes from DN15 to DN1200• The pipes are supplied with 150 mm. exposed ends as standard• The medium decides the carrier pipe material

Typical applications Steam Dom. water Brine NH3

Petr. Prod. Oil Glycol

Carbon steel + + + + +

Stainless steel + + + +

Plastic (PEX, HDPE) + + + + +

Cu (hard/soft) +

Insulation

• Polyurethane foam (PUR)– Made of polyol and

isocyanate– Free of chlorides!

• 5 series of insulation to meet all technical and economical demands!

– The choice of a thicker insulation can be advantageous in the long run...

• It meets the requirements of EN253

Page 15: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Insulation

• Density: min. 60 kg/m3

• Cell structure: min. 88% closed cells

• Compressive strength 10% deformation: min. 0,3 N/mm2

• A low heat conductivity:– 0,027 W/mK (+50°C)– 0,022 W/mK (-20°C)

• For normal applications, the pipe assembly should have a life of at least 30 years!

Low heat conductivity in unaged conditions...

Page 16: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

Jacket pipe

• HDPE in black or white– 100% watertight!– Impact resistant– Salt and chemical resistant– Hygienic– Anti-corrosive– The black HDPE is UV

resistant • The HDPE is approved to fire

classification NT fire 036 (classification 3)

Page 17: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Hygienic design

• The smooth surfaces of both pipes and joints are just as easy to clean as a stainless steel surface

• The HDPE tolerates cleaning with high pressure jets!

1. The foam is injected

2. The PUR foam expands to fill the pipe

3. After trimming the ends...

4. It is finished!

Product range

The 3 systems

Low temperature (LT) ÷200°C - ÷60°C

Normal temperature (NT) ÷60°C - +140°C

High temperature (HT) +140°C - +250°C

Page 24: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

Low Temperature System

• Operating temperatures– from -200°C to -60°C

• Insulation serie 5• Only freely suspended

systems• The system is applicable for

media such as:– Liquid nitrogen, liquid argon,

liquid oxygen etc.

Page 25: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Normal Temperature System

• Operating temperature– from -60°C to +140°C

• Insulation serie 1-4• Freely suspended or directly

buried systems• The system is applicable for

media such as:– Ammonia, glycol, food &

beverage products, condensate, oil etc.

Page 26: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

High Temperature System

• Operating temperature– from +140°C to +250°C

• Freely suspended or directly buried systems

• The system is applicable for media such as:

– hot water, hot oil, steam etc.etc

Page 27: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

High Temperature System

• The insulation consists of a combination of PUR foam and mineral wool

• The insulation system is supplied in 2 standard versions

– For medium temperatures of max. +210°C and max. +250°C

Mineral wool

PUR foam

Above ground systems

• The pipe design is a bonded system

• It is supported outside the coating

– no thermal bridges!• It is robust and may be used

as walkways• Space saving solution in e.g.

pipe racks

Why insulate afterwards, when you can do it much better upfront?

Page 29: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Underground systems

• It is water and diffusion tight!• It is robust• The jacket pipes are held in

place by soil friction• Don’t necessite a cement wall

trench

Page 30: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

03-06-2013 IMEL/Template.ppt

Underground systems

• Any movement caused by temperature change is absorbed within the system itself!

• The movements are absorbed by expansion-absorbing elements

– i.e. L, Z or U bends and axial compensators

The sleeves

• Cross-linked Polyethylene (PEX)

• They are remarkably flexible and bendable!

• They are 100% water tight!• They have the same

mechanical strength as the rest of the pipe system

• They tolerate over heating, does not stress crack and stress release

It’s unique LOGSTOR technology!

Pre-insulated fittings

• Everything is possible!– Bends, Tee´s, anchors,

valves, spools and customer designs

• They are watertight and robust

• Continuous jackets without penetrations

• Simple and quick installation on site!

Page 38: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

Pipe supports

• The type depends on the pipe layout

• Available in electroplated or stainless steel

• The support is fixed on the jacket - no thermal bridges!

10 good reasons

1. Outstanding insulation quality!• heat loss is up to 40% less

than in a corresponding system with traditional insulation

2. Supports are fitted outside the casing• no thermal bridges

3. 100% water tight!4. Effective corrosion

resistance5. High level of hygiene

Page 43: PUR-temadag, 30. maj - Asger Milborg (LOGSTOR)

10 good reasons

6. High mechanical strength• you may walk on it!

7. Reduced installing costs• quick installation of pre-

insulated pipes8. Minimal maintenance costs9. Low operating costs throughout

the lifetime of the pipe system10.Jackets in black or white HDPE
