WHILE the dust is still not set-tling around the launch ofthe metro police, which wasdescribed by the oppositionparty in the NelsonMandela
Bay metro, the DA, as a “fake” launch inMay, adverts have appeared in local news-papers in the past two weeks for a numberof posts in the metro police force.
These include a post for Metro PoliceChief which was advertisied onMonday last
week. On Monday this week fifty posts forinspectors and 65 posts for sergeants wereadvertised. The Metro Police Chief post was adver-
tised as a 5-year contract with a renumera-tion of betweenR1 070 316 andR1 488 000 peryear all inclusive. Standard benefits are notapplicable for this position.Inspectors’ salaries will be between
R375 636 and R522 240 per year (basic salary)while sergeants will earn between R145 632and R202 476 per year (basic salary). This comes amidst threats last week about
a strike by the trade union Samwu over the
“unilaterial change in service agreements”of staff which are being transferred by themunicipality to the metro police force.Samwu secretary Mqondisi Nodongwe
toldExpress reporterNcebaDladla that theymet with the metro municipality leadershipon Monday and that they (Samwu) are nothappy with the advertising of the posts.“Themunicipality can’t continuewith the
advertising of metro police posts whilst stilldiscussing placement policy with the un-ion,” Nodongwe said.He said that the Corporate Services Exec-
utive Director will have a meeting with the
Safety and Security Director for further de-liberations on the issue yesterday.About the strike he said, “We have served
notice for the strike. They (the municipalleadership) asked us to withdraw it, but werefused. We can’t withdraw the notice un-less they resolve the issues under discus-sion. Only then will we withdraw the no-tice.”Vuyo Zitumane, the municipality’s acting
director of corporate services, told DieBurger last week that the trade union is act-ing under a misconception.

My husband left me and went to London withanother woman for 5 years! I tried to bring himback, I visited priests and healers for help butfailed.Ligan and Miss Jessica looked through themirror and assured me that he’ll call within 4days, and I’ll pick him at the airport. He reallyphoned and he’s return after 5 years! He accurately read my fortune (for R200 con-sultation fee) & told me all my problems withoutme mentioning a word. He even used a mirror
to show me real-faces of people who were trying to pull me down.performed special-prayers for me, cleansed me from
badluck & also gave me powerful lovecrystals plus a special-ring to fix myfinancial problems. Four (4) days after prayers my husband was backhome, asking for forgiveness. I am very happy, we recently reconciled!Like me, all clients I have been referring to him always got GUARANTEEDRESULTS in a few days.

CARALEE DORFLING
PORT Elizabethans who attended the MECfor Social Development’s outreach program-me in Seaview, apparently left behind rub-bish that filled more than 40 black bags.
After the event, the organisers allegedlyjust closed the doors of the Seaview Commu-nity hall on Friday - ignoring the fact that thehall’s floor was strewn with empty KFC foodcontainers, cooldrink cans and piles of chic-ken bones. The hall was used byNancy Sihlwayi, MEC
for Social Development, and other delegateson Friday to provide feedback to the commu-nity about problems in the region.“Residents who had come to listen to the
MEC, each received an ANC shirt and a KFCcontainer,” said Jason Grobbelaar, chairmanof the residents’ association, who also atten-ded the meeting. He said the outreach programme had appe-
ared more like an ANC election campaign tohim.“But the biggest shock of all was when the
caretaker called me Saturday morning to tellme to go check in which condition the hallwas left.”
The empty containers and chicken boneswere not only on the floor in the hall, but ap-parently also outside around the hall.According toMartin van Tonder, caretaker
of the hall, a delegate told him on Friday thatthey would send cleaners to the hall early thenext morning. Van Tonder was becomingworried by late Saturday morning when noone had shown up to clean up the mess.“My biggest concern was that the hall
would not be ready bySunday, when a churchservice is being held here,” said Van Tonder. After Grobbelaar visited the hall, residents
of the area were approached to help clean. “Ittook us almost an entire day to clean the hall.Wepickedupmore than 40 blackbags ofmess. The oily chicken legs spots on the floor arestill visible, but we’ll have to try to get thoseout at a later stage.Neither Sihlwayi nor her spokesman Mzu-
kisi Solani, responded to inquiries on Sun-day.Kupido Baron, municipal spokesperson,
said that “it appears that there was a commu-nication gap between the organisers of theevent and the municipality, because usuallyour sanitation services clean up after anevent.”

JUDGEMENT was reserved last week in whatcouldbeawatershedcasewith far-reachingcon-sequences forelectricitypricinginSouthAfrica.
A case in the North Gauteng High Court wasbrought by a group of four NelsonMandela Baybusinesses, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Busi-ness Chamber as a fifth applicant, to set asidethe additional electricity increases that took ef-fect in April this year. The Eastern Cape businesses challenged the
NationalEnergyRegulatorofSouthAfrica (Ner-sa)’s decision to approve an additional R11.2-bil-lion increase for Eskom through theRegulatoryClearing Account (RCA).The argument by the energy intensiveNelson

paid receive just and equitable relief.Eskom has already undertaken to repay
amounts overpaid following theApril increaseifNersa’s decision is declaredunlawful and setaside by the court.TheNelsonMandelaBayBusinessChamber

PARENTS of children from birth to six years,in developing communities in Port Elizabethare to be offered two free evidence-basedworkshops created by Early Inspiration, which begins tomorrow, June 23, at Joy to theNations Church at the corner of Villiers Roadand 9th Avenue, Walmer.
Funded by the Oppenheimer MemorialTrust, the practical workshops will cover therole of the parent (June 23), and attachmentand discipline (July 21).Theworkshops aim to provide parentswith
the knowledge and skills to confidently raisetheir children, and to be aware of the role theyplay in developing their child to his or her fullpotential. The sessionswill be held inXhosa to ensure
that parents from theWalmer community areable to express themselves in their mothertongue.Jessica Baker, who developed the skills-
based programme following her Masters re-search in social work at Stellenbosch Univer-sity, says of the new programme, “Buildingparents’ self-esteem is at the centre of the pro-gramme. By giving parents confidence, andknowledge we can encourage parents to buildan attachment with their young child.“Attachment bonds are reciprocal, emo-
tional and physical connections between par-ents and children.”She adds about the name of the programme,
“The parents we met with gave us the name,Siphuhlisa Ulwazi Lwabazali (meaning par-ents empowered with knowledge). To them itis a very powerful phrase and gives themstrength. Which is what we aim to do.”
The parenting programme builds on EarlyInspiration’s work with teachers and earlychildhood development, Early Inspiration MDand founder Dr Lauren Stretch comments say-ing, “Giving children a sense of belonging, showing them love and investing in their edu-cation supports children’s long-term successesand will in time eradicate poverty – one familyat a time.“Parents want to do the best they can for
their children, and a lot of parenting is instinc-tive, but by sharing experience, knowledge andskills, parents canhave confidence inhow theybring up their child.”To take part, parents need to SMS their name
and Walmer to 082 583 1633 to book their place. The Siphuhlisa Ulwazi Lwabazali Parent

is centered on fantasy, childhood dreamsand magic slippers. Remember when youwere a child? No dreamwas too big or unat-tainable, your mind wasn’t afraid of wan-dering and anything was possible.Sadly, as we grew up some of us forgot
how to dream. This year’s campaign seeksto create an “anything is possible” envi-ronment, particularly for those facing life-threatening illnesses. Imagination is theessence of what Reach For A Dream does. The Foundation’s overarching
message, “Bring dreams to life”,takes children’s dreams intothe realm of fairy tales, fantasy and imaginationwith fantastic visualsjuxtaposed into a re-al world in which, like in the tale ofCinderella, sim-ply wearing“magic” slippersand a sticker canmake seeminglyimpossible thingshappen. The Reach For A
Dream Foundation isdependent on donor fund-ing and public support to ensurethe success of its initiatives, one such ini-tiative being its annual slipper day fun-draiser campaign. The campaign encour-ages people to buy slipper day stickers for
just R10 and to wear their slippers to work/school for one day to show their supportfor children with life threatening illness-es.CEO of Reach for a Dream, Julia Sotiri-
anakos, said by fulfilling children’sdreams, they enable them to experience amagical time in their life which they do notget to experience due to their illness.“The positive effect of the ‘dream come
true’ often helps children respond betterto their medication,” explained Sotirian-akos.In 2015, they successfully raised
R3 497 500 which will enable them to reachmore than 11 000 children this year. “Weare aiming to raise double this amount in2016 so that we can reach so many morechildren and inspire hope in both theirlives and that of their families,” saidSotirianakos.
You can purchase or or-der your stickers fromthe Reach for aDream office inPort Elizabeth bycontacting Mi-chelle on041 583 6507 oremail [email protected] Day stick-
ers will also be avail-able from any Pick n

NEW York Film Academy graduate, inter-national commercials in LA, internships atproduction houses, and with a new singlecoming out soon to spoil the airways, thislocal lad has his sights set on stardom andis making serious strides towards thatdream.
At just 20 years old Gino Lee has alreadyachieved more than other people in the en-tertainment industry can only dream of.
This musician/singer/actor/model hasbeen living his dream in the USA for thepast three years, and is currently backhome to pursue his music career.
A former Theodor Herzl pupil, Gino gothis big break when he attended the ARTS(Applause Rising Talent Showcase) in Or-lando, Florida, in 2013.
ARTS gives aspiring artists the opportu-nity to audition in front of industry agents, managers and label executives. At these au-ditions Gino received 18 call backs where
he was scouted for acting and modelling, and obtained a prestigious scholarship atthe New York Film Academy. After graduating from the academy, Gi-
no landed several roles in commercials andmusic videos. He also learned to work be-hind the scenes while doing two intern-ships at the Compound Production Houseand Skylight Studios respectively.“My time in LA was invaluable. The
amount of growth I felt was immense. I amso humbled by everything I have learnt,”he said.“I am now able to write, mix, master and
produce my own music, which I love, be-cause I think it is important to own yourown content. My goal is to be an entrepre-neur and to be proficient.”Gino has just been signed by ICE Artiste
Agency in Cape Town for acting and com-mercial modelling work. This would prob-ably mean a move to Cape Town is on thecards.“I am probably going to be based in Cape
Town, but for now I am enjoying the timeat home with my family. I really missed mymom’s cooking!”A move back to the States is also still a
possibility, but for now he will focus onmusic locally.“I focused a lot on my acting while I was
in LA, and my acting has improved somuch. But for now I would like to developmy music in both performing and produc-ing here at home. I realised that it is goodto have a strong foundation in your homecountry.”His latest single, “This Party” which he
performed live on the Expresso show lastweek, will be released this week.More details will be available on the Gi-
no Lee facebook page, and on twitter,@MrGinoLee.

4th Avenue, Newton Park, is currently un-dergoing a much needed make-over to notonly modernize and restore, but to add val-ue.
Milprop, the developer of the 4th Avenuebusiness quarter, said that they had focusedmainly on the refurbishment of a numberof buildings in 4th Avenue, Newton Park andthe surrounding area.
“We wanted to give the majority of thestreet a make-over. The refurbishment isnot complete; it’s still work in progress. 4thAvenue is a really great business hub situat-ed in the CBD ofNewton Park. It is amixture
of business and living,” said a spokespersonof Milprop.“We are considering acquiring new prop-
erties to add value and enhance value. Themajority of work was completed in 2014 and2015 but there is still work to be done. We’realmost complete but with refurbishmentsit’s never complete.“The aim is to modernize. Some of the
buildings are from the 1950’s and otherswere not in good condition and had to bedemolished.”Milprop’s vision for Newton Park is not
only renovation but also the adding of valueand quality of life in the area.

“THE talent is here. In Uitenhage. After all, life is about giving, not taking.”
With these words, Willem Greeff fromDark Ripple Productions, announced thatthe action movie Impervious Souls will befilmed in Uitenhage, with nearly the fullcast to be made up out of locals. The idea of a movie in Uitenhage caught
fire whilst Greeff, who manymoons ago ma-triculated at Daniel Pienaar, enjoyed a braaitogether with Morné Rosser, an ex-Brand-wag pupil. Rosser asked, “Why not a moviein Uitenhage?”Indeed why not? Greeff reasoned, and
soon the cameras will start rolling.Uitenhage make-up artist Geraldine
Palmer Ferreira, has been commissioned asthe official make-up artist for ImperviousSouls whilst Denise du Plessis and DesiréUngerer have already been acknowledged ascharacters in the movie.Greeff explained the underlying theme of
the film to the UD News: “The short routeto be successful is a route not mapped. Im-pervious Souls is about the action and dramaon this route.”“Twopals, ColinAndrewandGordonCon-
way, take the short route to what they thinkwill bring them pride, but actually it is thehighway to the underworld of conflict, gang-sters and self-destruction. So often in life, things looking cool are the guaranteed stufffor ending in hot water.”Greeff, an executive producer, director,
actor andwriter, returned to his home town, for the shooting of his movie, after spendingnearly a decade in Miami as well as in Italy,Switzerland and various other countries.Itwas during a family holiday, visiting his
parents Jacques and SharonGreeff in Uiten-hage, that he was offered the opportunity toenter the South African film industry.Greeff played the leading role in the Afri-
kaans movie, Gebore Talente, together withAngelique Gerber.“What I’ve experienced in the South Afri-
can film industry is that art effects, especial-ly light exposure, aswell as the dialogue, arenot utilized enough. Audiences so often canpredict where the story-line is heading to.
“With Impervious Souls, it will be differ-ent. The emotional turmoil will unexpected-ly be exposed through captivating special ef-fects and dialogue. I would like for themovieto be visually pleasing - this open doors tointernational screens.”The movie will start where it ends: The
main character, Colin Andrew, in hand- andfootcuffs, explains what led up to him beingin this situation. The next scene iswhere theother character, Gordon Conway, sits at the“Welcome to Uitenhage” board.Greeff explains the jist of the broader
screenplay: “The two characters have tochoose: family or freedom? The turningpoint is reached when money matters col-lide with personal pride.”Executive producer of Impervious Souls,
Morné Rosser, said all scenes will be filmedin Uitenhage. It actually was his idea tobring the crew to his home town.“It is exciting times for Uitenhage. I know
there is a lot of talent in town and we arelooking forward to discovering.“I am proud to be part of this. Willem
(Greeff) has travelled the world, and now heis back in his home town, giving our peoplethe chance to act in a movie,” said Rosser.
Search for local acting talentAny residents between the ages of 18 to 65
years, who believe they have acting skills, must just click on Impervious Souls Face-book page for the necessary information.Dates for auditions (and monologues) - to
be held at The Caledon conference facilitiesin Caledon Street - will also be posted on thepage. The features Greeff are looking for to play
the “Gordon Conway” character includetall, lean and being a pretty boy.
Filming processThe filming of Impervious Souls will take
approximately a month whilst the editingwill take up to five months. The film is ex-pected to be released early 2017.Greeff said his next movie, a romantic
comedy, will also be filmed in Uitenhage. This time the focus will mainly be on schol-ars from local schools who will be grantedthe opportunity to showcase their actingskills.

VOLKSWAGENhasrevivedtheBeetleBajaBugwith the introduction of the Beetle Dune, thefirst crossover Beetle derivative in more than 80years.
The production Beetle Dune was premiered atthe 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Dune’s striking design is enhanced by its18-inch wheels and the wider and lifted body, allof which revive the characteristics of the legend-ary dune buggies. In South Africa, the BeetleDune will only be available with 1.4 TSI enginewith110kWpoweroutput. It ismatedtoa7-speedDSG transmission.
The Beetle Dune has a unique and powerfulcharacterwithitsoff-roadlooks,newbumperde-signs, front diffuser, rear diffuser, lifted bodyand new for the model range, Canyon 18-inch al-loy wheels.
The front end has been extensively rede-signed. What remain unchanged are its basiciconic style and the layout of the typical roundheadlights.
Thesideprofile featuresblackoff-roadaccentsand there is an emphasis on the wheel-well ex-tensionswhichhavebeendesignedwithoneout-er and one inner radius.
Also creating a charismatic image in side pro-file are the black side-trim panels (stylised “Bee-tle” running boards) and the side sills which arefinished in Reflex Silver. Above the side panelsthere is a black double stripe that extends to the“DUNE” signature at the front. An elegant fea-ture is the anodised aluminium side windowtrim.
Three elements define the image of the rearbody: thelargerearspoiler, thenewlydevelopedLED tail lights and the newly designed bumper.
The standard rear spoiler, painted in glossyblack at the top and in the car’s exterior colourat the bottom, optimises downforce at the rearaxle. The new LED tail lights generate an entire-ly new night design.
The Beetle Dune can be ordered in one ofthree colours, Pure White, Reflex Silver andnew Sandstorm Yellow. The Beetle Dune can al-so be ordered with an optional black-paintedroof.
InteriorThe instrument panel and dashboard com-
bine innovative technologies and user controlswith painted surfaces and a glove compartmentlike the one in the air-cooled Beetle. It offersplenty of space and comfort for four persons.
In addition to visual customisation, other ex-tended interior/functional features of the BeetleDune include automatic headlight activation, manual lumbar support in front, illuminatedmake-up mirrors, cruise control system, auto-matically dimming rear-view mirror, rain sen-sor for the windshield wipers, Park Distancecontrol (front and rear) and Hill Hold Assist.
Optional features include sport seats with Vi-enna leather in Titanium Black, Bi-Xenon head-lights with separate LED daytime runninglights.

tion of Volkswagen infotainment systems. Simi-lar to other Beetle derivatives, Dune is offered
with the standard 5-inch touchscreen radio/CDComposition Colour system and optional6.5-inchCompositionMediaandDiscoverMediawith satellite navigation systems.
The standard system, the Composition Col-our, has very good sound with eight loudspeak-ers, CD player with MP3, SD card slot, Bluetoothconnectivity, USB and AUX-IN ports.
The Fender sound system is offered in con-junction with Composition Media and DiscoverMedia. The Fender sound system has two tweet-ers installed in the mirror triangles and two inthe rear side trim panels.
The woofers are located in the front doors, andthere are other woofers in the rear interior sidetrim panels. In addition, a subwoofer in a closedbass box is integrated in the trunk.
The heart of the sound system is a 10-channel
amplifier with Class A/B output amplifiers and400 watts of output power.
The customer also gets adjustable ambient in-terior lighting in three colours (white, red, blue).Along with indirect illumination in the doorshoulder, it also includes a light ring around theloudspeakers in the doors.Prices:

HE can be forgiven, after all he’s only 10, learn-ing the basics of rugby at primary school. It allhappened at a booze and braai at a neighbour’shouse last Saturday. The boy is their only son.“You watch,” he said as the Springboks
trooped off the field at halftime at Ellis Park, looking down-hearted and the worse for wear.“Bokswillwin it,”he insisted. “Secondhalf, you
just watch!” His dad gave him a pained look, then looked around apologetically. “More beeranyone?”Okay it’s an old story now, but it bears re-tell-
ing. Thekid returnshis attention to the family’soutdoor TV. The halftime score is 19-3 in Ire-land’s favour. One of the father’s friends, down-ing his beer, says solemnly: Looks like Irish
After the boy had helped himself to anothercan of lemonade and a lamb chop, he lookedabout at the grown-ups around him and added:Allister Coetzee’s no fool. Now, after losing thefirst Test in Cape Town it’s one-all, so the finalis inPE.We’lldonner themthere, that’s forsure. And there won’t be a single empty seat.”The mother smiled at her son, went on with
her knitting, chatting with her friends. Saidthey ought to visit the local cinema to see TheMan Who Knew Infinity. “That sounds like aspooky one,” said the 10-year-old’s mother. Then everything changed, after a dynamic

the Match award going to a substitute? Not of-ten. But that’s how good he was!Just as surely Warren Whiteley is bound to

IFyou’daskedmostpeople topointoutAzerbai-jan on a map they would probably struggle. Ifyou then told them that its capital city Baku isgoing to host its first F1 race in 2016 it wouldpossibly have beenmet with reluctant enthusi-asm.Nevertheless, on the edge of the Caspian Sea
the Azeri organisers plotted a street circuit un-like any other. The combination of the stun-ningly high-speed section and incredibly tightsection around the city’s beautifulmedieval ar-chitecture merged perfectly to highlight thestrengths of Nico Rosberg’sMercedes. TheGer-man driver cleaned house in Baku by takingpole position, fastest lap and the race win indominant fashion.Rosberg led cleanly off the line andwasnever
challenged as he completed the 51-lap race on aone-stop strategy. It yielded his fifth win of theseason and a sizeable increase in his lead atopthe driver’s table. As faultless as Rosberg’sweekend preceded so the opposite was true forteammate Lewis Hamilton.Seemingly out of sorts, Hamilton stuck his
Merc in thewall onSaturdayandconfinedhim-self to a tenth place starting position. An ERS(energy recovery system) issue disrupted his
charge through the field. Thanks to theFIAreg-ulation, which bans certain radio communica-tions,Hamiltonwas left to figure out the settinghimself.TheBritwas able to eventually resolve the is-
sue and set two blisteringly quick laptimes be-fore cooking his tyres.Behind race leader Rosberg, SebastianVettel
overtook Daniel Ricciardo for second. To coverthe Red Bull stop Ferrari called Vettel into thepits. However, the driver overruled the pitwalland stayed out. It paid off ultimately as Vettelfinishedsecondwithoutanyrealisticshotatvic-tory.Force India’s Sergio Perez secured third to
score his second podium in three races. Ferra-ri’sKimiRaikkonenran third fornearly the en-tire race. The Finn stopped early on lap 8 andran a 43-lap stint on the soft tyre. But a five-sec-ond penalty for crossing the pit-entry line anda late ERS issue meant he was unable to keepPerez at bay. Eventually Raikkonen, sufferingwith a bout of food poisoning, finished fourth.Lewis Hamilton finished a lonely and disap-pointed fifth ahead of Williams’ Valtteri Bottasin sixth. Both Red Bull drivers were forced onto two-
stop strategies with overheating rear tyres andfadedbadlythroughouttherace.DanielRicciar-do finished seventh ahead of teammate MaxVerstappenineighth.NicoHulkenbergbroughthis Force India home in ninth while Williams’Felipe Massa scored the final point in tenth. All expectations were that the safety car
wouldappearseveral timesthroughout theracegiven the tight confines and close proximity ofthe walls. But all twenty-two drivers were ex-ceptionallywell behaved and therewerenoma-jor incidents. In fact, only four drivers did not make it to
thechequeredflag.ToroRossohassomeinvesti-gating to do as both their drivers, Daniil KvyatandCarlosSainz, were forced to retirewith sus-pension issues. Manor Racing’s Pascal Wehr-lein retired with brake failure as FernandoAlonso’s McLaren was pulled into the garagewith a gearbox failure.RemarkablyRosberghad the sameERS issue
as Hamilton but was able to rectify it by chang-ing the right settings. This resounding victoryincreases Rosberg’s championship lead to 24points over Hamilton. But given that thirteenraces remain on the calendar the race for the2016 driver’s crown is just warming up.
