Facts about Junipero Serra:

Did you know that when Fray Junipero Serra arrived in Vera-

cruz, horses and mules could have taken the missionaries to

Mexico City? But Fray Junipero said that he preferred to walk.

It was a rule of the Franciscan order that friars could not ride a

horse, as it was considered a luxury, unless they were sick or

injured. After many days of walking, one of Father Serra’s legs

became swollen, blistered, and badly infected. Still, he kept

walking.

Atterdag Village welcomed

Shirley Rowley and Rose Roberts when they arrived with strawberry

shortcakes to celebrate the June

birthdays of Atterdag Village resi-

dents. The residents and staff were

very thankful for the love and car-

ing that was shown to them. Shirley

and Rose, thank you!

OUR HOLY FATHER'S

INTENTIONS FOR

JUNE

Universal: Immigrants and refu-

gees. That immigrants and refugees

may find welcome and respect in the

countries to which they come.

For Evangelization: Vocations.

That the personal encounter with

Jesus may arouse in many young

people the desire to offer their own

lives in priesthood or consecrated

life.

Thank you to all the wonderful pa-

rishioners who took time from their

day to help with the recent bulk mail

for the Parish Picnic event in August.

Your ongoing dedication and hard

work, commitment and enthusiasm is

an inspiration to us all! God bless you!

To enable Father Gerald to go to Ire-

land to be with his rapidly failing

brother, Father Matthew Elshoff has

arrived sooner than announced to be-

come pastor at Old Mission Santa

Ines. We welcome Father Matt, and

we wish Father Gerald safe travel

until he returns on July 22 to live at

the Mission.

Did you know? By teaching “total

body safety” we further efforts to

stop abuse. Parents and caregivers

should stress that a child’s entire

body is private and be watchful of

adults who might be “grooming” a

child by constantly tickling, kissing,

or hugging them. A child will often

tell a parent he or she does not want

to hug or kiss someone – and parents

should listen and respect their wish-

es. By teaching “total body safety” to

adults, children, and young people,

we are furthering our efforts to stop

abuse and to make the world a safer

place for all of God’s children.

NOTICIAS

Al enseñar “seguridad corporal to-
