Skeptical Reality of Ghost Huntingfrom The desk of briaN d. parsoNs

I typically ignore what the hardcore skeptics have to say about the paranormal field. A healthy dose of skepti-

cism is good for any type of scientific endeavor in order to keep things bal-anced, but many times the hardcore skeptics have an axe to grind and will argue just for the sake of arguing. I will admit, however, that I will frequently read skeptical magazines and view skeptical websites just to see what is going on with the other side as well as to keep myself grounded.

kirLian PHotograPHyA photographic method involving high frequency elec-tric current, discovered by S.D. & V. Kirlian in the Soviet Union. Kirlian photographs often show colored halos or “auras” surrounding objects. Kirlian photog-raphy has found a place in both formal and alternative medicine, and even in agriculture.

tHougHt PHotograPHyThought Photography, or “thoughtography,” a term coined by To-mokicchi Fukarai [1], is a type of paranormal photography in which a living person psychically projects an image on a photographic plate or film. Usually a camera is used, however, many images have been imprinted directly on photographic film or paper, shielded from light in a black envelope, box or dark slide. This form of thought photography is called skotography.

‘Death is simply a shedding of the physical body like the butterfly shed-ding its cocoon. It is a transition to a higher state of consciousness where you continue to perceive, to under-

stand, to laugh and to be able to grow.’-Elizabeth Kubler-Ross Can we

Serial coffee drinkers are more likely to feel “the presence of dead people,” British researchers found. They asked students about their caffeine intake and those with the highest were also most likely to report seeing or hearing, things that were not there.

Just a Few Benefits of Membership...a shaRed pRofessional and seRious ReseaRch Vision. ParaNexus is founded upon a grounded and serious approach to understanding paranormal and anomalous phenomena. We are not an ephemeral or temporary organization, but rather, a dedicated association with a “make it happen” attitude.

Our vision is to rally the expertise of many, to think outside the box, and to rethink standard approaches which so often lead to dead ends. We believe that we can make headway into a better understanding of anomalous phenomena by attracting talented individuals who bring their education and skills to bear on the paranormal enigma. We also do not dismiss the role that the human psyche plays in reported phenomena.

As an association, we also strive to support our members in their research and investigations by offering assistance in evidence review, feedback on hypotheses, online research tools, encour-agement, and other support.

peRsonal anomalous ReseaRch Blog that allows you to puBlish youR Views, peRspectiVes, theoRies, etc.All memberships include an anomalous research blog. Creating your blog on ParaNexus allows you to have a blog without much of the website maintenance involved with other blogs.

For example, you can write your blog using the built-in editor that also allows you to upload images, videos, audios, and documents to your blog. The subscribe feature allows other members to subscribe to your blog and receive email notifications when you publish a new article.

Members can also add comments to blogs, and when they do, you will receive an email notifica-tion.

Creating your blog is easy! Just navigate to the Blog Directory, and click on the “Create Blog” button. Once done, you will be able to add your articles using the simple system. A FAQs pop up is also available with answers to your questions and video tutorials.

We want to see your photographs of ghosts! This week, we are encouraging members to submit their photos of ghosts! These can be real, unedited photos or you can try to trick us with a doctored image. Photos submitted will be put in the next newsletter and fellow members can guess if your photo is “fact” or “fiction.” The reveal will happen the following week when photos will be in the newsletter again with votes beside each image for fact or fiction and of course, we’ll tell you if you guessed right!

E-mail your entry to Jessica at [email protected] with the subject:fact oR fiction

Please be sure to mention in your email who took the photo and whether or not you’ve added the ghost yourself (don’t worry - I won’t tell!).

Photos must be submitted by Sunday, November 21, 2010.
