A ROOM OF HER OWN: WOMEN IN AMERICAN ART
March 12 at 1:00
Marple Library Meeting Room Please register in advance.
This lecture will be presented by
a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Light refreshments will be
provided.
This talk covers 100 years of women who found ways to create the rooms they needed to become
accomplished professionals in their own moments of history. From the colonial-era Peale daughters to the subversive humor of Lily Martin Spencer to the trailblazing murals and left-of-center lifestyle
of Violet Oakley, we'll look at the boundary- busting 19th-century to help trace the forces of
political and cultural change in American history that have both inspired and challenged
professional female artists.
