Agenda
• Customer Needs• Specifications• Team Norms & Value• Schedule• Plans for Week 3
Customer NeedsRevision #: 001Customer
Need #Importance Description Comments/Status
CN1 1 Minimize variability and Quantify uncertainityMain customer need, reasons for variability could be that
the test stand heats up during tests
CN2 1 Modify or create custom standardized test
Create a custom test or modifty an existed test close to actual cooking conditions in Haiti. Ideas could include
time to actually boil water.CN3 1 Accurately measure exhaust flowrate Quanitfy the volumetric output of emissions.
CN4 1 Measure efficiency, emissions and their uncertaintyMeasure the efficiency of the thermal versus chemical
energy used.
CN5 1 Quantify particulate matter(ie. Ash)
Would like to quantify particulate matter emitted. Would be a bonus if we can measure matter emitted during time
it takes to boil and then matter after boiling stage has been reached.
CN6 1 Benchmark against other stoves
Test and compare our stove versus rebar stove or another kind of stove in Haiti cooking conditions. Would give us
an idea of our fuel usage, emissions, and time to boil with another stove.
CN7 1 Repeatability in Procedure
Test stand must allow for repeatability, concerns uncertainty and variability. Customer stressed the need to
run numerous tests under standardized conditions.
CN8 1 Test should meet the Haitian's needs Long time cooking, lighting procedure can be different.
CN9 1 Cost to be within budget Budget is $1000 for 2 quarters
CN10 2 Completely flush out all air in test standBy using a bigger blower, we should be able to flush out
more exhaust and leads to more repeatable results
CN11 2 Gain accurate mass measurementsFind a precise scale to accurately measure the fuel usage
during testing.
CN12 2 Test is operable by one personIf set up and testing can be performed by one person,
would be a plus
CN13 2 Give results quickly if any changes were done throughout the process
Capable to give fast feedback to the stove design group,so that changes in their design affect the output
rather than uncertainty
CN14 3 Emission measurements to show "live" dataIf we can take the USB CO2 sensor and find a way to view live data, it would make user operation easier.
CN15 3 Bigger wheels on test stand Install bigger wheels for support
Cust. Need #: enables cross-referencing (traceability) with specificationsImportance: Sample scale (1=must have, 2=nice to have, 3=preference only), or see Ulrich exhibit 4-8.Description: organize as primary and secondary needs (hierarchy) -- Ulrich exhibit 4.8Comment/Status: allows tracking of questions, proposed changes, etc; indicate if you are meeting the need ("met") or not ("not met")

Engr. Spec. #: enables cross-referencing (traceability) and allows mapping to lower level specs within separate documentsSource: Customer need #, regulatory standard (eg. EN 60601), and/or "implied" (must exist but doesn't have an associated customer need)Description: quantitative, measureable, testable details*This table can be expanded to document test results
Team Norms & ValuesRunning Rules/Norms1) Issue resolution will be the responsibility of the Group Leader2) Issues are considered resolved when resolution has been reached and "buy-in" of resolution has been obtained from the person(s) who identified the issue. 3) Issue priority and "date to be resolved" will be assigned on an as needed bases. High priority; urgent issues will be assigned due dates and priority4) Closed issues will be reviewed in weekly meetings.5) The action list is intended to be used to track short term actions and who is responsible for them. This log will be reviewed each week in meetings.6) Action items which cannot be resolved in the short term may be shifted to the issues log.7) We will meet at the Erdle Commons on Monday from from 1pm to 4pm and Wednesay from 1pm to 4pm. Thursday 2-5 pm when needed8) If unable to attend notify the group 24 hrs beforehand when possible9) Share Information on mycourses/EDGE website or in person10) Decisions will be based on majority vote.11) Handle Attendance, interpersonal issues through discussion. Speak with Professor Hanzlik as a last resort.12) All team members are expected to be freely communicative, organized and flexible.
Project Manager Roles1) Keep team members on track during the meetings, discussions, and during job-division.2) Send out information, such as reminder emails.3)Have a relevant plan. Know the issues, keep track of the progress and time4)Efficient and effective communications5)Checks if EDGE is up-to-date6)Ensure that work is distributed evenly throughout the group
Schedule
Plans for Week 3
• Estimate times for specific tasks• Benchmark against old groups• Plan for deliverables• Assign tasks• Research other tests• Acquire information for informed
decisions(Eg. Emissions, Fan size, Particulate matter collection)
