An Election Prayer to Mary O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life.

TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - OCTOBER 18, 2020

GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen FIRST READING: Isaiah 45:1, 4-6 (145A) A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah Thus says the Lord to his anointed, Cyrus, whose right hand I grasp, subduing nations before him, and making kings run in his service, opening doors before him and leaving the gates unbarred: For the sake of Jacob, my servant, of Israel, my chosen one, I have called you by your name, giving you a title, though you knew me not. I am the Lord and there is no other, there is no God besides me. It is I who arm you, though you know me not, so that toward the rising and the setting of the sun people may know that there is none besides me. I am the Lord, there is no other. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM R. Give the Lord glory and honor.

SECOND READING: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians Paul, Silvanus and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to you in world alone but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with much conviction. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God GOSPEL Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia

Shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Page 4: Our Lady of Sorrows Churchourladyofsorrows.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/bulletin.2020.10.17.pdfOct 17, 2020  · 7:45 a.m. < Jennifer Bevan R/B Judith Collins Tuesday, October 20

GOSPEL (cont’d.) Matthew 22:15-21 The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion, for you do not regard a person’s status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?” Knowing their malice, Jesus said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax.” Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s.” At that he said to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. PROFESSION OF FAITH - NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Dear Families, During this time of uncertainty, we remain committed to the health and safety of our Parish families. For this reason, we have decided to offer

remote learning for our Religious Education Program this fall. Each student will receive a hard copy of their book and have access to the digital portal Flipgrid. The portal is where the students and families will access the assignments, applicable videos, chapter reviews and assessments. The assessments are sent directly back to us once completed. The books were distributed to parents at the end of September in the hall during two scheduled times.

Confirmation Prep (Fall, 2021) The majority of students/families opted for “in person” instruction, using the book “Decision Point” with Mr. Tom Salerno, Catechist. There are two separate sessions all scheduled in the Parish Hall on (2) two Sundays each month. Session A- meets from 3:00 - 4:30 pm Session B- meets from 5:00 - 6:30 pm

Calendar Dates are: October 11, 25

November 8, 22 December 13

January 10, 24 February 14, 28 March 14, 28 April 11, 25 May 16, 30

Fifteen (15) classes are being offered. Students are required to attend ten (10) classes. For more information you may email: [email protected] or leave a voicemail at 609-927-0121.
