PERPETUAL ADORATION How appropriate that we celebrate the Feast of Divine

Mercy right after Easter. The Resurrection was an act

of Mercy, for without Jesus

redeeming us we would not

be able to approach God.

Stay and visit with Jesus in

His Sacrament of love, the

Eucharist. Go to Confession

and receive the merciful love

and forgiveness of our Father

and then approach our Jesus,

our God and Savior. How

awesome is our God that

He loves us so much. Do we

try to return some love to

Him? Bring our children and teach them that just as

we receive the Mercy of God we must also grant our

mercy upon others.

ADORERS PLEASE OFFER ONE HOUR THIS

WEEK FOR ALL WHO FIND IT DIFFICULT

TO FORGIVE, FOR ALL WHO WON’T

FORGIVE, FOR ALL WHO DON’T BELIEVE

IN FORGIVENESS FOR OTHERS AND FOR

ALL WHO FIND IT HARD TO FORGIVE

THEMSELVES.

Adorers needed: Friday 4:00 a.m.-5:00 a.m.

It’s Divine Mercy Sunday...maybe it’s time for

you to be a Perpetual Adorer. Just try it as a

Substitute. You will want to come back!

A Spiritual Meditation

“Don’t worry about

anything: Instead, pray

about everything: Tell

God your needs and

don’t forget to thank

Him for His answers. If you do this, you will

experience God’s peace which is far more

wonderful than the human mind can understand.

His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts

quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4.6.-7

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Divine Mercy Sunday will be

observed here at our parish

today. The services begin at

3:00 p.m. and will incorporate

the recitation of the Chaplet of

Divine Mercy, recitation of the

Glorious Mysteries of the

Rosary, reading of a Concise

Catechesis of Divine Mercy

Sunday (incorporating Pope

Saint John Paul II’s Message of

1981) and time for private devotion. The Holy Hour

concludes with Benediction. Divine Mercy Sunday is an

annual celebration of God’s Mercy when all sin is forgiven

and the punishment due to sin is completely removed for

those who prepare for this day by celebrating the Sacrament

of Reconciliation prior to today, and who receive Holy

Eucharist on the day itself. The focus of Divine Mercy

Sunday is on God’s Mercy for sinners, for those who turn to

Him with trust.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE

SUNDAY READINGS

HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. W illiam J. Reilly

Second Sunday of Easter or

Sunday of Divine Mercy, April 3, 2016

“Many signs and wonders were done among the people

at the hands of the apostles. They were all together in

Solomon’s portico. None of the others dared to join

them, but the people esteemed them. Yet more than ever,

believers in the Lord, great numbers of men and women,

were added to them... Blessed are those who have not

seen and have believed.”

The second Sunday of Easter, designated Divine Mercy

Sunday by St. John Paul II, and a key moment in the

Jubilee Year of Mercy finds us, not at Solomon’s portico

but in our homes and home parishes. The signs and wonders

of the early church are manifest again, as others, through

our efforts and invitation, return to the life of the church.

If each person would pause, pray, and then invite someone

to experience the mercy of God and return to the life of the

church, how different would our parish life be.

Before his election as Pope, our Holy Father as Archbishop

of Buenos Aires wrote “Only someone who has encountered

mercy, who has been caressed by the tenderness of mercy,

is happy and comfortable with the Lord.”

Bishop Sullivan has asked

I share the following

information with you from

Archbishop Joseph E.

Kurtz, President of the

USCCB. Today, the people of God

must speak up for our

brothers and sisters facing genocide in the Middle

East. I urge every Catholic to sign the petition at

www.stopthechristiangenocide.org. As people of

faith, we must convince the United States Department

of State to include Christians in any formal

declaration of genocide.

For months, the Catholic Church has been a voice for

Christians and other religious minorities facing the

evil of deadly persecution. Now, the State

Department is expected to make a decision within

days. A resolution, H. Con. Res. 75, is also gaining

bipartisan support in Congress. Please, make sure

your name is added to the witness. The very future of

the ancient Christian presence in the Middle East is at

stake.

I am grateful to my brother bishops, the Knights of

Columbus and all the faithful who have struggled to

keep a focus on suffering Christians in the national

debate. Rest assured of my continued prayers and

support.

With each passing day, the roll of modern martyrs

grows. While we rejoice in their ultimate victory

over death through the power of Jesus’ love, we must

also help our fellow Christians to carry the Cross of

persecution and, as much as possible, help relieve

their suffering. By doing so, the Middle East and the

world will be made safe for people of every faith to

live in peace.
