THE SCARLET LETTERMay 7-15, 2016Opera Colorado will offer the world premiere of The Scarlet Letter in a contemporary adaptation of the classic Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. Celebrated soprano Elizabeth Futral returns to Denver to play Hester Prynne, the young, beautiful seamstress who has an affair and conceives a child in 17th century Boston. For librettist and Colorado Poet Laureate David Mason’s precise, rich and fast-moving text, the composer Lori Laitman has written a work of power and intensity. She reveals characters in their challenging situations, all the while having composed music of lyric beauty that singers love to sing.
