Upcoming Events
The Point Foundation family welcomes 36 exceptional students as the 2015 class
of Point Scholars. The new scholars join our current undergraduate and graduate
students for a total of 85 Point Scholars who will receive financial assistance and
programmatic support in 2015 and 2016.
Point received almost 2,000 applications for scholarships during the application
period from November 2014 through January 2015. The rigorous selection process
took place in the spring, and Point announced its new scholar class in June,
concurrent with celebrations of LGBTQ Pride Month. As Point Scholars, students
agree to maintain a high level of academic performance and give back to the
LGBTQ community through the completion of an individual community service
project each year.
Point awarded its first eight scholarships in 2002 and has since invested more
than $18 million in the programmatic support of its scholars. Many individuals,
corporations, and organizations support Point’s mission by funding a Named
Scholarship of $100,000 to cover the financial assistance and programmatic
support Point provides its scholars.

Dear Friends,Parades, rallies, festivals, parties—there is no shortage of ways to celebrate
LGBTQ Pride Month in June. Point Foundation’s unique Pride Month
tradition is announcing our new class of Point Scholars. Nothing gives us
more pride every year than welcoming into the Point family a new class of
inspiring scholars.
For Pride Month 2015 we announced the selection of 36 new Point
Scholars. Whether you are a new or long-time supporter of Point, a
volunteer, mentor, or recently learned about Point through one of our
scholars’ annual community service projects, the encouragement you
provide these young people means the world to them.
Many of our scholars grew up only hearing disparaging words about
LGBTQ people. Even for some of the most academically bright and
capable students, the notion that people can—and would want to—
be proud of them is still new and unfamiliar. By supporting Point
Foundation’s mission, you are helping extend LGBTQ Pride beyond the
celebration of a day or month. Point is there to help our scholars all year
long, and through their example we send a much-needed message to
LGBTQ young people everywhere that our community cares about them.
In the years since 2002 when Point selected our first class of eight scholarship
recipients, we have made it possible for over 300 students to achieve their
higher education goals. That is 300 dreams not deferred, 300 LGBTQ young
adults on their way to becoming leaders in society and 300 great reasons
to be proud! With your help, that number will continue to grow, and we will
have even more reasons to be proud and celebrate Pride each year.
