Message from Tom Piro, Seminarian

Dear Parishioner, As you may have heard, I have recently left Wildwood to head up north to the Bronx, NY for 5 weeks. During those 5 weeks, I will be helping the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s religious order) with a summer camp. I will also be volunteering at the soup kitchen and homeless shelter that the sisters run. When asked if I would consider taking this assignment last summer from my vocation director, I will not lie, I was a bite nervous. After all, what is a beach bum from Wildwood going to know about teaching inner city high schoolers? This past year I discussed this assignment with my formators and spiritual director and eventually with their help, and obviously prayer, I decided to take on this assign-ment. During those times of prayer, I just felt the Spirit moving me to say “yes” because this is the work of a Christian. By baptism, you and I were called to be imitators of Christ, or to go even further, to be another Christ in this world. We are called to strive to be such imitators that, through our acts of charity and service, others don’t see us, they see Christ. I would now like to extend this invitation of service to you. These acts of service do not have to be as intense as going to the Bronx. They can be as simple as volunteering your time here in the Wild-woods. Maybe give up one morning a week to volunteer at Lazarus House, our food pantry. Maybe 15 minutes before and after Sunday Mass as a greeter, usher, or even volunteer in the parish office. Know that you can turn any small act of charity into a great act of love. Finally, please pray for my students, that they may be open to the love of Christ. Pray also for the poor that I will encounter during this assignment. Pray also for me, that I may be a faithful and hum-ble servant. Fraternally in Christ, Tom Piro

Stewardship

June 30, 2019 Stewards Honor God 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sis-ters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather serve one another through love.” (G 5:13) We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to “live the good life.” But Jesus calls us to a different kind of freedom. St. Paul reminds us that Jesus sets us free so that we can live Stewardship by serving one another, sharing our gifts and promoting God’s work here on earth to glorify His name and not honor ourselves.

Family Reflection Corner

Weekly Readings Reflections 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

Prayer helps us to hear God’s whispering words

of love, encouragement and Jesus’ invitation to follow him. As a family, talk about those things that get in the way of taking time out for prayer each day.

Ask each member of the family what they would

like to be when they are older and why that par-ticular field interests them. Talk about college or other training they will need to accomplish their goal and what they can start doing now as the first steps toward that goal. Talk about how pray-er will pay a role in their choices.

By virtue of our Baptism, we are called to be fol-

lowers of Jesus. Have the family recall events from the past year that reminded each of you of your baptismal call to follow Jesus. As a family, evaluate how you did during that event and what you could have done differently to show your commitment to following Jesus.

General Information

Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is important that we pray for healthy interactions and cor-rect moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts.

Our next holy hour will be Monday, July 15, 2019 (the third Monday of the month),

at 9:00 AM at Kelly Hall

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Please consider signing up to spend thirty minutes or more before the Blessed Sacrament in Kelly Hall at Assumption Church on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. month or two, please consider signing up to be a sub. AND please remember to sign in when you get to adoration. Thank you so much. God will truly bless you in a special way.

House of Charity—Bishop’s Annual Appeal

Liturgy Corner...learn something new or maybe even become inspired !

Q: What is meant by Liturgical Year or Liturgical Calendar The liturgical year is made up of six seasons: Advent - four weeks of preparation before the celebration of Jesus' birth Christmas - recalling the Nativity of Jesus Christ and his manifestation to the peoples of the world Lent - a six-week period of penance before Easter Sacred Paschal Triduum - the holiest "Three Days" of the Church's year, where the Christian people

recall the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Easter - 50 days of joyful celebration of the Lord's resurrection from the dead and his sending forth of

the Holy Spirit Ordinary Time - divided into two sections (one span of 4-8 weeks after Christmas Time and another

lasting about six months after Easter Time), wherein the faithful consider the fullness of Jesus' teach-ings and works among his people

The mystery of Christ, unfolded through the cycle of the year, calls us to live his mystery in our own lives. This call is best illustrated in the lives of Mary and the saints, celebrated by the Church throughout the year. There is no tension between the mystery of Christ and the celebration of the saints, but rather a marvelous harmony. The Blessed Virgin Mary is joined by an inseparable bond to the saving work of her Son, and the feasts of all the saints proclaim the wonderful works of Christ in his servants and offer the faithful fitting examples for their imitation. In the feasts of Mary and of the saints, the Paschal Mystery of Christ is proclaimed and renewed. Seasons, saints, and celebrations during the liturgical year are laid out in a yearly liturgical calendar.

The House of Charity – Bishop’s Annu-al Appeal seeks to raise funds to provide care, respect, justice, peace and dignity for every soul in the Diocese of Camden. Your support of the 2019 House of Charity – Bishop’s Annual Appeal ensures the vitality of essential Diocesan ministries and programs that sustain the healing, teaching and redemptive Presence of Jesus Christ through the Diocese of
