Letter From Kevin Quinn, Parish Administrator

Dear Parishioner, As we are probably still working on fulfilling the New Year’s Resolution that we made to ourselves it is fitting that the readings today talk about change. We often become complacent and tend to think that tomorrow we can change; tomorrow we can get our lives in order as Jesus has said we must. There is always an opportunity to examine who and what we are throughout the year. We never have to wait to commit. In the first reading from the Book of Jonah God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh immediately. Jonah was hesitant, just as we may sometimes be tentative about heeding the Lord’s call. God wanted to work through Jonah, just as the Lord wishes to work through us. In order to accomplish that we must be open to letting God be an intricate part of our lives. What Jonah did was an example of repentance, an illustration of what can be done when someone allows the strength and power of God to work within her or him. St. Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, reinforces the call for change and conversion heard in the first reading. Paul prompts us to recall that time is short, and the world in which we live is temporary. As each of us knows, it is very easy to get caught up in our day to day experiences and emotions. Yet St. Paul declares we may spend too much time weeping, rejoicing, and possessing. Stewardship tells us that everything we have comes from God. The point of that is the same as Paul’s thrust in the second reading — that is, our focus should be on God’s presence in our lives, and the fact that this life is merely a preparation for the next one. It is how we prepare for that next life through change and conversion that is crucial. As a side note, yet continuing with the theme of change, I am very pleased to announce that our parish office staff has been restructured a bit in order to better serve you. Mrs. Carolyn Miller has assumed the position of Parish Catechetical Leader. The experience and knowledge that Carolyn brings to this newly established position will be very beneficial to our Religious Education and Adult Education programs. Assisting Carolyn in her duties is Ms. Donnamarie Black. This dynamic duo will surely be shaking things up a bit. If you know either of them then you are aware of their infectious enthusiasm in everything that they do. The primary duties of RCIA and Baptism preparation will be handled by Deacon Nick Danze. We are so blessed to have his assistance in these two areas. Deacon Nick will also play a role in Adult Education programming and I am quite certain that you will also see Deacon Nick involving himself in other areas of parish outreach as time goes on. Sacraments Pre-Baptismal Classes: As the primary educators of their child, the parents/guardians and godparents have the most important influence on the faith development of children and parishes must provide catechesis for them before their child is baptized. Notre Dame de la Mer Parish offers six Baptism Preparation Classes throughout the year. It is important for the expectant parents/guardians to arrange to attend a session 5 months before the birth and Baptism of the child. Contact the parish offices for more information. Funerals: To be arranged with a priest and funeral director. Sacrament of the Sick: Anytime Marriage: Arrangements should be made one year in advance and prior to making reception plans.

Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is important that we pray for healthy interactions and correct moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts. Our next holy hour will be Monday, February 19, 2017 ( the third Monday of the month), at 1:30 PM, at St. Ann Chapel, located near the parking lot of the Church (toward the ocean) at Atlantic & Glenwood Avenues, Wildwood, we will hold a Holy Hour of intercession before the Blessed Sacrament.

INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION for NDDLM Mass and Office

Keeping everyone safe is our main concern! In order to accomplish this we ask that you please follow the procedure below when weather is not favorable in the morning to attend Mass. Please listen to the radio to see if Cape Trinity Catholic School or Wildwood Catholic High School is closed-if the schools are closed there will be no morning mass. (This is for the 7:00AM and 8:30 AM Mass)….also the Parish Office would probably be closed. Please do not take chances that are not necessary. In the event of inclement weather, weekend masses will be decided as needed.

New Lector Training On Tuesday, January 30, 2018 there will be a training session for all those who wish to become a lector for our parish.
