All us have been hurt or wounded at sometime in our lives. We have hard times that bring struggles and conflicts to our door – but it is in how we respond that evidences the truths of our character. Human nature is to lash out or react in ways that are often more inflammatory and don’t bring resolutions. We can talk to everyone else about the wounds caused rather than those who are directly involved. We can try and solve personal struggles with our own flawed wisdom. Just when tempers were at their highest in Chile, a Chilean newspaperman saved the day.

Like the Chileans, we can cause situations to escalate and birth long term resentment as a result. This applies to us as parents and children. It applies to us as teachers and students. It applies to us all in every area of our lives.

God calls us to work through what we face with His wisdom fully applied and to invite Him to be part of delivering true healing and forgiveness. He gives us clear directions on how we are to handle conflicts and trials in our lives. So much pain in our world could be eradicated if we were quick to apply His principles to our difficulties. Around the College

Cleaver’s ClangersI went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, ‘Where’s the Self-help section?’ She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Principal’s ForumMr Bruce Douglas and the Leadership Team are hosting a Principal’s Forum on Tuesday, 31 March 2015. It will commence at 7:00pm at the Busselton Baptist Church. The primary purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity for members of the Cornerstone Community to meet with and ask questions of the College Leadership Team. Mr Douglas will also take some time to share about the College. Our heart is for an open, honest and respectful dialogue. To ensure that all questions are addressed on the evening, community members are encouraged to submit questions prior to the evening! Please direct any questions to [email protected] or click on ‘join’ the event on the College Facebook page and click on the ‘Ask Question’ icon to submit a question. There will not be any crèche or child minding available on the night.

Year 8 VaccinationsWould parents of Year 8 students, who were either absent or not had their forms returned in time for the recent vaccinations, please note the following information:‘Please ring Jenny Jurat Ph 97540604 or attend the Community Health Clinic, Mill Rd near the hospital – Thursday 19/3/15 1pm – 4pm no appointment necessary.’

Parent Helpers RequiredPartnership with parents is one of the strengths of Cornerstone, and if you

are looking for a way to invest in the education of your child we have plenty of opportunities just waiting to be explored!Whether it is in the classroom, at a carnival, the canteen or the library, every offer of assistance is more than just welcomed, it’s essential. If you would like to know more, then please speak to your child’s teacher or leave a message for Lynn Chapman in the front office and she will happily get back to you. Can’t wait to see you around the campus!

BathersIn last fortnight’s newsletter, it was advised that the uniform shop will no longer be supplying black bathers for inter-school swimming participants. This is still the case, BUT there is a supply currently on hand that can be purchased until stocks run out.Swimwear is still stocked in a multitude of sizes but there are some sizes that are no longer available and won’t be replaced. For students that fit into this category they will need to source black bathers elsewhere. So, now is the time to take action if you think you may require access to this limited supply!

Planned AbsencesThe Education Act makes it very clear of the obligations of parents to always have their children attending school unless illness or other acceptable reasons are applicable. Family holidays are not considered a justifiable reason by law. Please ensure that you plan your family holidays around the set school holidays.Consequences for student absence during the term, as outlined in our parent handbooks, can include deductions in marks if assessments are missed. Please make yourself aware of the need to always have your children attending school, and the legal obligations that parents and the College have to ensure this is adhered to. This is an issue that we will elevate in importance in 2015.

Encounter with the LawThe Year 2 students had a recent brush with the law, but for all the right reasons.

A recent visit by some of our finest members of the local constabulary gave the children the opportunity for some hands on learning.

We are very grateful to the Officers who spent time with some of our young students, and know that the class had a very enjoyable and informative time with our guests.

Did you know? What part of the body does a stick of celery look like? If you said your bones, then you are right and that is exactly what celery is good for. Celery is a natural source of the bone builder mineral calcium. So for strong bones why not add a few sticks of celery to your lunch box.
