We are having a great second semester with lots of art, craft, sport, cooking, dancing and music, as well as maths, reading and writing. Several parents helped us with some yummy cookery lessons and we learnt a little about the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, which resulted in the class painting `Picasso`s Dog`. Last term we read the classic story of Treasure Island and made model sailing ships. Then we read Rowan of Rin and, with the help of a parent, we built the mountain that Rowan climbed. The highlight so far though, has been preparing and then performing our assembly. The theme was `Countries of the World` and Room 16 students will tell you about it. Everyone studied a different country and Mrs McIntosh worked with us in ICT to carry out research and produce a book on our Ipads. Brodie. We stayed with the theme and had a fun time making our assembly. Angela. I studied South Africa and found out that the first heart transplant was carried out by Dr Christian Barnaard, in Capetown in 1967. Latraigh. I studied the Philippines . We created two dances, the Salsa and Las Corolenas. It was unique. Eliza. We made flags and masks to represent the countries such as Egypt, Germany, Switzerland and the Philippines. Ella. My favourite part was when I was the drummer and Samuel played guitar in the Salsa dance. Quinn. The most enjoyable part for me was when I was playing the guitar. Samuel. We are having a great second semester with lots of art, craft, sport,

cooking, dancing and music, as well as maths, reading and writing. Several

parents helped us with some yummy cookery lessons and we learnt a little

about the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, which resulted in the class

painting `Picasso`s Dog`. Last term we read the classic story of Treasure Island and made model

sailing ships. Then we read Rowan of Rin and, with the help of a parent, we built the mountain that

Rowan climbed. The highlight so far though, has been preparing and then performing our assembly.

The theme was `Countries of the World` and Room 16 students will tell you about it.

Everyone studied a different country and Mrs McIntosh worked with us in ICT to carry out research

and produce a book on our Ipads. Brodie.

We stayed with the theme and had a fun time making our assembly. Angela.

Barnaard, in Capetown in 1967. Latraigh.

I studied the Philippines . We created two dances, the Salsa and Las Corolenas. It was unique. Eliza.

We made flags and masks to represent the countries such as Egypt, Germany, Switzerland and the

Philippines. Ella.

My favourite part was when I was the drummer and Samuel played guitar in the Salsa dance. Quinn.

The most enjoyable part for me was when I was playing the guitar. Samuel.

I really enjoyed speaking about Angola. William.

My favourite part was the Mexican Hat Dance because it was Brodie, Bella and me. Ashleigh.

I loved the Mexican Hat Dance in the Salsa movement. James.

I liked the music with the maracas. I was one of the players and Toby was a great leader. Shaun.

I really liked it when Sam, Quinn, Latraigh and James,

marched out as the military. Bella.

My favourite part was the military march. Trent.

My favourite was the Salsa because I played the trumpet with

Nicole and James. Angela.

The trumpeters in the Salsa ! Tyler.

The Salsa was fun because the band kept rhythm and didn`t

lose it. Lucas.

I enjoyed the `Did You Know ?` section and Las Coronelas

because I really like dancing. Julianna.

I really liked the Salsa dance because I was second on with

Julianna. Bonny.

For me, the best bit was Las Coronelas when we did the turns in and out. Zohar.

So there we have it. We hope you enjoyed our assembly. We want to give a big thank you to the

councillors who always do a great job at assemblies, our terrific parents and caregivers, and Mr

McLean and Mr Fisher for their help with the music.

Assembly

A big well done to the Year 3/4 students of Room

16 for hosting the last assembly. What talent

you all displayed!!

Next week’s assembly will be hosted by the Year

1 students of Room 34. The school looks forward

to all family and friends attending.

Attendance

Term 4 is a busy term for both the school and for

families. It is important to know that even

though it is a busy time students still need to be

regularly attending school. To highlight the

importance of regular attendance we include the

following information.

Missing school adds up;

if a child misses an average of five days a

term (Years 1 to 10), they miss out on

approximately one year of school

if a child misses one day a week of school

(from Years 1 to 10), they will miss almost

two years of school

if a child misses 1.5 days a week of school

(from Years 1 to 10), they will miss almost

three years of school

if a child misses two days a week of school

(from Years 1 to 10), they will miss almost

four years of school

if a child misses five weeks a term (Years 1 to

10), they miss almost five years of school

Based on these statistics I’m sure that parents

can see the massive effect this degree of

absenteeism would have on student learning.

Buy One, Get One Free Yakamia Book Fair Our “Huge Yakamia Book Fair” is on once again but the difference is when you buy one book you get another

book free to the same value.

For example if you buy 1 book for $15 you can choose one or more books up to the value of $15 for free.

This Book fair is a reward for the highly successful Book fair we operated early in the year and, although no actual money is raised for the Library, it is extremely good value for students and parents.

If you are thinking of rewarding your children for their effort at school, or at home, or even thinking ahead for Christmas then this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase high interest literature at greatly reduced prices.
