Please ensure that your child is on time for the start of the day. Being late not only disrupts classes but also unsettles the child that is late because they do not feel prepared for that lesson or the day ahead. Learners who are late must report to the front desk and not go directly to class. HAVE YOU LOCKED YOUR CAR? Criminals loiter in parking lots or sit in vehicles and over-ride your ‘remote’ signal as you ‘click’ and casually walk away. You may think you’ve locked your car but it is still open. When you’re away items of value are swiftly removed. No broken glass, no forced entry and no insurance payout! To ensure your safety, we recommend the following steps: • Store all items in your boot, but don’t pack away in full view of the criminals lurking in the parking lots. Lock your car with your key, or if you must use electronic means – physically check the doors before leaving. Prevent “Smash & Grabs” by keeping seats and floor clear of valuables when driving and by keeping all doors locked. • Keep your windows closed at intersections. Continually check that you are not being followed. Be aware – be safe. ~ Mr Leon Botha SCHOLAR PATROL OPERATION PROCEDURES To support and enhance the effectiveness of the Scholar Patrol at our school, we request all parents and learners to share this pedestrian facility responsibly. Please adhere to the following rules: All pedestrians must cross the road at the assigned scholar patrol crossings. When the whistle is blown and the monitors indicate it is safe to cross, please co-operate responsibly. Do not stop or park on the demarcated areas outside the school gates. • Beacons are put out close to the scholar patrol area, please do not ignore them or drive over them. Do not obstruct the scholar patrol members’ view of oncoming traffic, there- by endangering the lives of pedestrians. When scholar patrol team members or our security request parents to move their vehicles, please accept these directives. • The Scholar Patrol members are doing a voluntary service to safeguard the learners’ crossing the road safely and in an orderly manner. Your tolerance and support at the Scholar Patrol crossings would be highly appreciated. Please be extra cautious on rainy days. By adhering to these procedures, parents can be role models for our learners. Mr Botha and I would like to thank the Scholar Patrol learners for their hard work and commitment to the team. It is a challenging task for them to undertake, dealing with traffic situations outside the school as well as being responsible for the safety of our Bryanston learners crossing the road. We are proud of you all! Safety is as simple as ABC - Always Be Careful. Remember: Road Safety is everybody’s responsibility! ~ Mrs Tania Roman

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTSART DEPARTMENT SHOUT-OUTMrs Frank is looking for used ice-cream containers and empty food tins for art projects this term. Please send any items you can spare with your child to the art room.

FORGOTTEN ITEMSIf a child has forgotten any item at home, they are to suffer the consequences.

The staff have been instructed NOT to accept any item during school hours. The reason for this is that it interrupts the front office staff, the educators and the learners.

    Annual Easter Egg Charity Drive

We are beginning our annual Easter Egg charity drive and would appreciate your support in collecting East-er eggs for the less fortunate.

Please only send the soft marshmellow Easter eggs, either in boxes or strips or even just send one or two loose ones.

We will be distributing the eggs to three churches in our area who then distribute the eggs to the out-reaches they are involved in.

Please send the Easter eggs to your class educator before Thursday 11 March 2015.

There are many children who are going to have a better Easter because of you!

    CAR SEATS FOR KIDS CAMPAIGN

Our Scholar Patrol members actively promote our Car Seat for Kids Campaign on a yearly basis. We promote road safety to learners within the school and we focus on the importance of learners using seatbelts and on or babies and toddlers being strapped into their car seats.

As a Bryanston family, we are aware that there are parents/family members who might have unwanted car seats gathering dust. We appeal to you to donate all unwanted baby and toddler car seats to our scholar patrol team.

Car seats can be delivered to reception with your name and surname on it so that we are aware of who donated them. We are in partnership with Wheel Well, Imperial I-Pledge and 94.7. These car seats will be donated to low income families. Your continued support in ensuring road safety is greatly appreciated.

Together, we can make the difference!~Mrs Roman and The Scholar Patrol team of 2015

FROM THE FINANCE DEPARTMENTFEES EXEMPTIONApplication forms for School Fees Exemption will be available from Monday, 9th February 2015. Parents must collect application forms, in person, from the school Finance Office.

Closing date for applications 1st term: 20th March 2015.

TOURS 2015The Grade Four to Seven tours are a great highlight in the BPS calendar every year.

The tours are self-funded and the cost of the 2015 tours are still to be deter-mined. We would like to offer parents the opportunity to start contributing to-wards the tours early in the year and split the cost over sev-eral months.

    The costs of the 2014 tours can be used as a guideline (Grade 4 R900; Grade 5 R1570; Grade 6 R2250 & Grade 7 R2500).

Should you decide to start making contributions now, please note the referencing to be used when making pay-ments: Surname, first name, tour i.e. Maepa, Leo (Tour).

MYSCHOOL NEWSYoull be glad to hear that December 2014 was BPSs best MySchool month ever. We raised almost R2000 more than in Decem-ber 2013!

Thanks to everyone who helped with our December campaign and who got us this far. Your assistance and your useful sug-gestions are invaluable. As always please keep spreading the word to other parents about how the MySchool card works and encourage everyone you know at school to swipe their cards

CARDS AT SHOPFor those who dont have cards, Wendy van Blerk has MySchool cards at the uni-form shop so please tell other parents about this. She also has forms to fill out if they want to change to BPS as a beneficiary or replace a lost card.

UPDATE ON THE WEBBeneficiary details can be changed by going to the website: www.myschool.co.za so anyone who hasnt done so yet can immediately change their beneficiary to Bryanston Primary

ANYONE CAN BE A MYSCHOOL CARD HOLDERThere is a misconception that you have to have children at the school to be a My-School card holder. This isnt true. Anyone can select BPS as their beneficiary so people outside the school, grandparents etc can have a card. Please spread the word.

Thanks again and keep swiping! ~ The Bryanston Fundraising Committee
